I am a new GM looking to start a regular online gaming group of 4 players looking for a spooky/Halloween-themed game that is set up as a one-shot but could continue into a regular game. I am asking for role players, not just dice rollers. I would like to learn how to be a great GM and grow stronger with my understanding of rules. As a player, you can be a seasoned player or recently introduced to the game! You just need to be considerate to my bumbling as a new GM.

Game hint: Something's off in Alderbrooke village a market town near the Greypeak Mountains on the edge of the frontier of the Far Forests.
“The villagers say not many adventurers find themselves wandering into Alderbrooke this time of year. They won’t say it outright, but I’m sure it has something to do with the ruins on the edge of town. Indeed, the settlement is old and dark in more ways than one. I suspect good reason that the main road veers around it on the eastern side.” – Sir Abathor, Journal Entry in the Alderbrooke Cathedral dedicated to the Dawn Father
Biggest ambition for your PC: To protect the land he has always known.
Reason for playing DnD: I've always loved the fantasy genre, so when I heard of DnD I was instantly hooked. I started playing ~6-7 months ago.
Brief backstory: Ammus was a young dragonborn when his clan disappeared, to young to remember anything about his parents. Learning to survive in the wild, he was eventually taken in by a band of Heroes for Hire, who raised him to always help others and protect the land he learned to call home. Now, he is off on his own, to practice the principles he was taught all his life.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Abner Goodman Race: High Half Elf Class: Cleric-Magic 2/Wizard 1 Alignment: Chaotic Good Biggest Ambition: To explore the world and see all that it can offer and study/teach magic. Reason: for the love of the game. Brief Backstory: Abner was raised by the family motto "Courage, Strength, and Knowledge Gives Freedom". He embraced it as a young boy and it has been his compass. He learned his skills and trade from his family and struck out on his own to explore the world. The rumors from Alderbrook has come to him and he is determined to explore this place and discover the mystery. Time Zone: EST
Standard array scores, high score cha, low score str
HP: 26
Class: Warlock level 3 (great old one)
Race: Half-elf
Class: warlock (great old one), (pact of the blade)
PC’s biggest ambition: get her life back.
Reason for playing DnD: It’s real fun. The first time I heard about dnd was from my dad, and I’ve been playing for about 3 years now.
Brief backstory (please be brief and flexible): Erawyn was (and still is) a dedicated scholar. But she was kidnapped at a young age by a group of followers dedicated to Dendar (the night serpent, if we are using the same deities in this adventure as I presume). Panicked, she forged a pact with the serpent and got out, unaware that she had just sold herself to Dendar.

Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
My name is Sakura, I am a halfling- donut hybrid that is true neutral. I am learning French but am still influent, and speak English fluently. My hobbies include: reading, writing, dungeons and dragons, drawing, and listening to Dames and Dragons. I play both player and DM roles.
Ambition: To return home, and defeat the Green Dragon which has made his ancestral homeland its lair. To do this, he must master the "Way".
Reason: Loved D&D since the 70's and need a diversion from working at home (EST).
Brief Backstory: Kensha (not his real name) hails from a hidden wooden valley deep in the mountains. When he was young, a green dragon moved into the area defeating the Elves and Dwarves who called the place home. Kensha wandered far into the eastern realms, eventually settling into an area much like his home. Besides a small village, the only other inhabitants was a lone monastery high in the mountains. After many years, he and the monks established a friendship. He taught them secrets of the woods and they taught him the Way. Once he had learned what they could teach in the monastery, he thought it time to begin his journey home.
Will be closing recruitment today 8/12. Everyone here minus Goliath roll stats, reroll 1s once just to see what folks get. Goliath if you didn't reroll 1s then please do so, thank you!
Biggest ambition for your PC: To right the wrong of his family to his clan
Reason for playing DnD: It’s an amazing way to relax and unwind when you emerge yourself in a really good rollplay. It’s like taking the best part of reading books, watching movies and hang with friends and mash them all in to one activity.
Brief backstory (please be brief and flexible)
Dalon was born in to the higher ranks of his clan. His uncle and cousin tried to persuade him to join them in overthrowing the rightful chief of the clan. Dalon refused but before he could warn the chief his relatives had put their plan in action and killed the chief and his family. The only one Dalon was able to save was the chiefs youngest son. With the help of other loyal clans members Dalon started to fight back, aiming to place the young boy in his rightful seat as head of the clan. As leader of the resistance he gained the status a hero to his people but realised that they need help from the outside world. Placing the young boy with loyal friends, hiding him from the unlawful chief. Dalon set out in the world to find the help his people need.
Race: Human (Variant) - Magic Initiative Feat mainly to get Find Familiar and a cat.
Class: Bard - College of Sword
Alignment: Neutral Good
Biggest Ambition for PC: He wants his stories to go down in history.
My reason for playing D&D: Escapism, an excuse to write and make stuff up. The fun of interweaving my ideas with those of others.
Backstory: No tragic backstory or huge occurrence, Mulligan grew up comfortably though he himself was always a bit of a scamp. He was always charming the girls, stealing a shiny object here and there and telling stories... The taller the tale the better. Nothing pleased him more than getting people to believe the most outrageous tales possible. This is what led him on his career path... Making up stories is one thing, but all stories have an element of the truth. Mulligan decided he needed to see the world, to have adventures, to get into scraps... The more outrageous he lived, the more outrageous yet believable he can make his stories...
(Changed ideas several times but sticking with this.)
