It's a big sandbox, loaded with lots and lots of options. What should we create?

I'm a fan of Play-By-Post and would require that you be willing to post at least once a week, if player's post more often, I'll likely respond as quick as work and life allows. I've run games here before, some years ago so It's been a minute. I'm getting old, so I apricate mature play and serious intentions, so the more you put into it, the more you'll get out of it. I am also a fan of things getting complicated. With the options for private threads, it's easy for PC's to split up or move at different speeds, as long as it's not impeding another player. I do have 5E, but am far more attuned to 3.5 because, once again, I'm getting old, heh.
Hmm... I'll probably have to revise this later.
Considerations for a character:
This is a city setting, with many quarters, factions, rankings, etc. Are you born in the city? Are you new from the sticks? What sort of living are you thinking of? Just being on an Adventure isn't really gonna cut it. Oh, and one of the fun parts of PBP is that players sometimes take awhile to figure out who each other are.
If a PC goes dark, i.e. doesn't respond once a week, then I'll start rolling a d10. On a 10, the character's gonna have an accident or get lost or something. I figure it's best to get that out in the open.
Hello from a fellow "old skool" D&D player! I also started in the early 80s, back in the AD&D red box era. Like you, I enjoy pulling out my old books to reminisce from time to time. I'm surprised I've never heard of this Judge's Guild book you mentioned, so I did a little research! I'm proposing a 5e-based race/class for a character, but with a twist that harkens back to the 3.5e era. My idea is to introduce him into the storyline as an ancient construct brought back to life under cataclysmic events, somewhat akin to a Captain America-style storyline (where he was unfrozen and is now a "man out of time", struggling to adjust to the 'modern' era).
Name: OU812
Race/Class: Warforged / Barbarian
Background: OU812 bears the scars of an existence so ancient it predates the very foundations of the City State of Viridistan. For countless ages, he lay inert, a silent, scarred relic of forgotten wars, buried deep beneath the sprawling metropolis. His slumber was violently broken during a recent, devastating earthquake that ripped through the city—a seismic upheaval that shattered ancient foundations and unearthed long-forgotten secrets.
Emerging amidst the chaos, OU812 was a wreck, bursting forth with a primal, untamed rage that became his first defiant roar in this bewildering new age. Amidst the chaos of the cataclysm, he was found by a small, desperate group of downtrodden commoners. Instead of fear, they offered a rare moment of compassion, forging an unexpected bond. OU812's barbarian fury remains a constant, simmering presence—a legacy of his violent past and a powerful, if sometimes clumsy, shield for his new, unlikely family in the heart of the enigmatic city.
Class: Artificer (someone's gotta be there to fix these things) Armorer
He runs a little repair shop on the outskirts of town. He's claustrophobic and doesn't 'like' to go into the closed in city spaces; but he will for coin. He has mechanical helpers around the shop tiding up. He's a bit of the nutty professor type. Absent minded and such.
I might not have been into this as long as some of you people, but I have played since 3.5 was a thing, starting out in 2002. I'll throw my hat in here, and would like to see where this ends up going.
Nox "Lockjaw" Virell – Urban Scavenger & Lock Savant Race/Class: Half-Elf Rogue (Thief) Concept: Raised in the collapsed industrial warrens of the lower city, Nox knows how to vanish in a crowd, shimmy through tight crawlspaces, and crack anything with a hinge or tumblers.
While I've never played either version of warhammer, I've read enough novels and watched enough YT vid's on 40k to get the ghist. So, looking at the above comments, I think we're looking at a Cyberpunkish DnD game. One of the wonderful things of being a game with so damn much crunch, it lends itself to be highly modifiable. So, in order for a Warfordged Barbarian not be a blinding shinny, and to further justify are artificer's shop, we can tap variants on automatons and mechanoids (clockworked and/or majicked).
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Droth Nym
Species: Goliath (Storm Giant Lineage) (2024)
Class: Fighter – Battle Master Archetype (2024)
Background: Soldier (2024)
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral
Character Summary: A rogue tactician born from stormblood and forged in syndicate fire. Once loyal to command, now answering only to instinct and quiet principle. Calculated. Unapologetic. An unanchored weapon with a conscience he rarely admits to—but one sharpened by every choice he refuses to make for anyone else.
Backstory: He was born where the air tAhins and the clouds feel close enough to carve. Raised not in comfort, but in rusted scaffolds and electric frost, he grew up towering over peers—yet always under someone’s boot. They said stormblood ran in his veins. He never asked what that meant. But when lightning arced across his skin during his first fight, he understood enough. Pressed into structured service while barely grown, he became a weapon built by hierarchy—taught suppression, rapid breach, shock division tactics. His mind absorbed engagement patterns faster than expected, his results too consistent, too clinical. He stopped asking questions. They didn’t like that either. He disobeyed once. Or maybe more. The records were erased. The fallout wasn’t. Now he walks the zones between wars and secrets, defined not by the orders he takes—but the ones he refuses. Quiet. Calculated. A commander without a unit, a storm without a flag. No one remembers his name from the war. That suits him.
Ability scores: 17147121316
So flavored cyberpunkish but flexible. We are using guns and tech then, profiency granted?

I want to bring Livvi back!!! I responded in our old PM thread...

As a free action, can I regret my life choices?
Oohh...what if we run this as a Warhammer 40k-inspired D&D campaign?
Love God. Love Others. Any Questions?
"Old-School" train continues ;-)

P.S. I'm down for Warhammer like game too.

Idk 3.5 but I'm interested in joining lol.
I'm proposing characters start at third level. Go ahead and set up your character and will go from there.
I've never played Warhammer.
I lucked into my JG's stuff back in the late 80's. Here's a link to my YT channel blathering about Judges Guild

I recreated Livvi, the human bard, at 3rd lvl. If we are using a 40K feel, I will shift her to be more Maidens of Battle commander-esque!

Very cool! So this would be 3.5 ruleset or Warhammer, or 5E with elements taken from those?
Okey dokey...I <think> I've got OU812 set up how I'd like him to roll:

@Rick_Hillard - do you have a campaign set up on DND Beyond we can link our character sheets to?
