Your eyes blink open, you are laying on your back. Staring at a stone ceiling, groggily you shake yourself awake and sit up to find you are not where you remember. Looking around you find four others coming to consciousness, all with a confused look on their face. The cave in which you find yourself is oval in shape, Well lit despite no apparent light source. You see no set of stairs or any sort of exit. Despite tirelessly searching the cave you find only one path in the center of the cave. A pitch black hole that seems to descend deeper into this cave system.
A echoing whisper lingers threw your mind, a voice from the ether. Deep and guttural but with age to it. "12 trials below, 12 Ordeals to face, 4 strangers plucked from home, Stuck in this desperate race, Some solved with mind, Others with Blade and Bow, No way back only forward to face the 12 Ordeals below."
Hello! This will be my first attempt at being a DM. I came up with this idea after thinking about what I enjoy doing as a player, Dungeon diving, fighting monsters and solving puzzles.
As the Premise says, there are 12 Ordeals. Each one becoming more and more difficult, Some will have a monster to slay others will be a Puzzle or a riddle that must be solved in order to progress. At the end of each Ordeal you will be given 1d4 rewards. the rewards will range from Uncommon to Legendary. Also at the end of Each ordeal you will be given the Option to rest or Push forward, If you choose to push forward and are victorious over the next ordeal you will be given 2d4 rewards and so on.
Players start at level 3, After each ordeal you will advance 1 level so its a milestone campaign. Ending with the players at level 15, There are no class or race restrictions but any and all teleportation magic/abilities that would teleport you somewhere other then in the cave do not work.
Looking for 4 players, for ability scores take one 18. Roll 4d6, re roll ones once and drop the lowest. You start with your Classes starting equipment + oneUncommonitem and 4 Greater healing potions. If you choose a spellcaster, You have the components for any and all spells you know.
No Backstory required but feel free to explain what you were doing before you were plucked away and deposited in the cave.
As I said Im a first time Dungeon master so please be patient with me.
Push forward Tier 3: 4d4 reward + 3 supreme healing potion (This is the last tier, after this the Reward counter resets back to the initial rewards.)
Application Example:
Character Name: Feld Drift
Race: Human (Variant)
Class: Fighter (Samurai)
Ability scores:181314151013
(Taking the Free 18 for STR.)
Backstory (Optional): Feld was last seen amongst a group of friends, Fresh off a battle with a rather nasty Gelatinous cube. Taking a moment to rest he wandered away from the group for just a moment when a bright flash blinded him, swallowing his person. The next thing he remembered waking up surrounded by three strangers.
Additional Information:
Players will receive One Re spawn during all 12 Ordeals.
If a Player dies during an Ordeal, They will re spawn after the Current ordeal has been completed.
You can choose to Respawn during the ordeal, In doing so you forfeit the current ordeals reward.
If a player dies a second time, they are Gone for good. No Resurrection magic will work.*
If you perish during one of the Ordeals and a Resurrection magic is used on you before the end of the ordeal, You will be resurrected with your Respawn still available. *This will also work if the player has no respawn available.
Players:
VanderLegion as Imras Galanoder (Rogue, Swashbuckler)
Oximas as Tazla Swong (Paladin, Oath of Vengeance)
JmBeckWith as Stanford Bluehand (Forge Cleric)
Jaydee88 as Felicity Belldrift (Sorcerer of Dragon blood)
class:Monk (either kensei if content sharing is on and you have it, otherwise open hand)
Ability scores: 8141181210
backstory (maybe): Macketho is a kalashtar, born in a monastery, where he lived and trained. He is practiced in the arts of weaponry and skilled at hitting exactly where he needs to. He’s bound to the spirit Mace, which is why he uses a mace as his weapon. His parents aged and died, and being 30 years old, he has had experience adventuring. He traveled with a ragtag group, which learned that he prefers to never talk, but instead use telepathy. This is also where he got his Bag of Tricks, a gray handbag to summon animals.
I'm also interested, sounds like a lot of fun. Interested in playing a swashbuckler rogue. Had one in another campaign, and like a lot of the pieces I had, but due to the nature of the campaign didn't get to actually put a lot of it to use, so interested in trying it where the class could possibly be more useful.
Backstory (Optional): Imrasgrew up on the streets. He learned from a young age how to beg and steal food. It wasn't much longer before he learned to pick pockets for money and valuables, and eventually caught the eye of the thieves guild. With their help he honed his skills and became much better at breaking into places and finding valuables to steal without getting caught, and his ambition grew. He quickly rose through the ranks, but it was never enough. He wanted to become the greatest thief who ever lived, stealing great riches and priceless artifacts.
One day he was in the middle of a job and discovered a secret passage in the house where he found himself. Following the passage, he came to a room with a mysterious orb in the center. Unable to help himself, seemingly against his will, given that he knew it was a bad idea, he found himself reaching out and touching the orb. As soon as his fingers made contact, everything went black, until he awoke in a cave surrounded by 3 strangers.
Rapier +1 seems like a fairly safe bet for the uncommon magic item.
Was hoping that went better. Either way it should be fun.
Character Name: Atticus Kane
Race: Human
Class: Wizard
Ability scores:13141013616 (18 to wisdom)
Backstory: Atticus Kane is the atypical wizard of older age. Long flowing white hair and beard under a short blue cap and dressed in long blue robes ordained with gold trim. He walks with a dark wooden quarterstaff. The bottom tip capped with a golden protector. At the top rests a blue jewel, inset in the wood. A bit of a frail old man, he is not as strong as he used to be. He relies on his wit and intelligence to defeat his foes. He continues his search of knowledge in the most dangerous of places. Atticus assumes the best magical knowledge is hidden away deep in the depths of the most dangerous of dungeons.
Backstory: Was on a hunt in the murky depths of her home an outcast of her people she instead found home in a local sea bordering village that deals primarily in trade. Was chasing prey in the depths of the ocean when the darkness of the sea suddenly became much darker and she lost consciousness now awaking in this dimly lit cave. Despite doing her best to learn from a local church on how to interact with others she has a hard time containing her anger with strangers.

Character Name: Stanford Bluehand
Race: Human Variant
Class: Forge Cleric
Ability scores:111012101114
Will drop a 7 for 18
Backstory: Blue was born into a smith family who made their money through smithing and such Blue was able to get good, better then good. His skills grew and grew and was one day asked to make a ceremonial Hammer for the church of Gond, The Lord of Smiths. He made such a good job at it that Gond contacted him and asked to make another, so he did and from then on Blue has done nothing but try to make himself into the best champion and smith he can.
He was looking for special expensive materials that his god sent him to find until he went to deep into a cave and blackout, now he wakes here wondering if this is a trap or a test.
Backstory (Optional): His parents died when he was but a few days old. Taken in by a priest of Eldath, he has learned to remain calm no matter the world about him, and how to help others find peace in whatever troubles they may have.
One day during a quest his goddess set him on, his blindness of others only playing to be of his faith betrayed him in sending him a false direction. He found himself in a grove, inviting and calm. the mist seeming to wash over him with waves of exhaustion. he figured no harm would come from a simple nap. but when he awoke he found all his things taken save for his weapon.

Character Name: Felicity Belldrift
Race: Half-elf
Class: Sorcerer (Dragon)
Ability scores:141015131211
(Will drop the 10 and take the Free 18 for CHA.)
Backstory (Optional): Felicity was born into a noble family, her sorcerer abilities manifesting in late childhood when blue scales started to sprout across her back. She was on an excursion to study an old magical artifact when she was hit by a wave of darkness... only to wake up somewhere unknown.
Haw was the prize of Sir. William of Arc. His Orc clan raided a group of caravans and as a result they were destroyed by the knights seeking retribution. After the assault Sir. William discovered Hawk wrapped in fur. He was only a day old at the time. Rather than leaving him to die or throwing him from a cliff Hawk decided to preform a experiment. He wanted to see what would happen if he raised a Orc to be a man of honor and law. Long had him and his comrades questioned if blood or training determined the nature of a man, and as a result little Hawk became the experiment.
Hawk was raised like any noble of house William. He was trained in the arts and taught the ways of battle. To the surprise of Williams, who thought blood was the deciding factor, Hawk grew up to be a respectful and well mannered noblemen. All the brutish nature that Orcs were known for was removed by stern and loving teachings of Sir. Williams wife, who considered the little Orc baby to be her extended son. Of course his nature as a Orc biologically still came into play. He was menacing in combat, and vicious on the battlefield. However off it, he acted the part one would expect of a member of a noble house. Williams was both proud and miffed about this. He owed his friend a nice sum of gold per the bet, but he liked the end result.
At the age of ten Hawk became a soldier for the city of Arc. He served under the banner of the Williams of course. After two years of distinguished and brave service his exploits earned him the rank of Lieutenant. A Officer position for a Orc, it was unthinkable. Hawk's fame however came at a price. He had drawn the attention of the High Nobility. Unable to suffer the thought of a Orc in a leadership role in the army the Nobility of Arc ordered Hawk to be removed from his position. To simply remove him would cause a uproar from the common folks, as Hawk's exploits and good will were well known. As a result Hawk was given the post of Warden of the Warrens, and station to a single post on the bad side of town. It was a position with no advancement, and no real responsibility. Thus they had removed him without having to actually get rid of him. Hawk, being a member of the House of Williams saw the power in his position. He began to use his new found post as a opportunity to bring order to the worst part of the city, and to go on adventures in the name of the city, and investigating potential threats.
The six of you awake in a groggy state, A feeling very similar to being hungover. Your head is spinning (Those with a CON below 13 are having a hard time keeping their stomach in check) Looking about you are surrounded by strangers. Some of a similar race as the two Humans, Stanford and Atticus quickly realize. An Elf and a half-elf in Imras and Felicity. A rather brutish looking Orc in Hawk and a Triton in the Tazla.
While all of you are immediately on guard at the sight of the strangers. Tazla and Felicity, the pair of you quickly scan the area, Finding yourself in a Cave. This 20 foot wide oval like room isn't natural, The walls are smooth and bare. A spark of panic hits the both of you as you both realize there is no Opening anywhere, no sign of a entrance or a exit out of the cave. Only a single, 3 foot wide hole in the center of the room. While the room is Well lit by a seemingly source-less light, the hole is dark so dark that even those with the ability to see in the dark cannot see threw it.
A Source-less, Echoing voice creeps threw each one of your minds. The Voice is Deep and has age to it, Guttural and almost feral.
"12 trials below, 12 Ordeals to face, 4 strangers plucked from home, Stuck in this desperate race, Some solved with mind, Others with Blade and Bow, No way back only forward to face the 12 Ordeals below."
"A test for the strong, to weed out the weak, at the end, The Exit that you Seek, Each one more challenging then the one before, Once it is completed simply put your hands on the Door"
There is a rush of wind threw the cave as a rope, appearing from out of thin air. Dangles into the dark void.

"What in the Nine Hells!" Hawk roared as he stood to his feet. His plate armor clanking on the hard floor. The Orc's eyes scanned the room seeing unfamiliar faces. The sight of them put the Orc on edge. Long had he lived in Arc and long had he understood that his people were not welcome in other places. Hell they were not even welcome in Arc. He was a exception, not the rule. Looking around Hawk made sure no one was coming toward him. Placing on his helmet, which somehow was on the ground, Hawk prepared himself in case he was attacked.
As Hawk waited for the verdict his mind ran though the situation. How did he get here, he questioned. The last thing he remembered was kissing his mother, oh right she was not, his Dame on the forehead and walking out the door for the days patrols. He was suppose to beat down Rat today and figure out where the smugglers were hiding. The Warrens were his tuf. He was the chief Warrior after all, and now he was here. In this strange room surrounded by strange people. Taking a quick glance he noticed a mix of races. One of them was a Triton, a rare, and haughty race. Two humans, standard, and two elves. He hated elves. They always came at him with a special kind of hate. Wait, no, one elf, the other was a half elf. Before he could make out more a voice began to speak. It spoke of trials ,and challenges. Hawk, did not like this.
"Who are you", questioned Hawk. His question was up in the air really, waiting for anyone to answer.
Felicity sits up, pushing long blonde hair out of her face and pressing a hand to her aching head. Did she fall? It feels like maybe she hurt her head... or had too much wine.
There's a quick surge of adrenaline at the realization that she is not where she was just a moment ago. The room is full of unfamiliar people and this cave... this is not a natural cave. She'll stand up cautiously, one hand on the crystal orb she uses as a spell casting focus in her pocket. When the source-less voice is finished she'll clear her throat, trying to hide her nerves.
"Well then... I don't suppose any ofyou happen to know how we got here?"

Stanford sits up slowly a little shaken but not completely worried and looks around at everyone as he scratches his shaved head. “My head is a little fuzzy but I can’t remember anything about how I got here... can any of you? My name Is Stanford Bluehand, but call me Blue it’s easier.”
Slowly he will get to hit feet his armoured plates sliding over one another, as he moved he pulled his tunic straight which drapes across his back and chest with the symbol of a Cog on the front. His large hammer in his hand almost breathes as small amounts of of heat and warm red light shine from it. He will help others stand up if they seem to struggle.
Imras jumps to his feet as soon as he realizes he’s surrounded by strangers, taking a few steps away to give himself distance and peering around with calculating eyes, taking in the cave around him as well as the 5 other figures in the room. His gaze lingers on the hole in the center of the room, noting that even his eyes could not see through the darkness there, telling him it must be magical in some way.
In response to felicity’s question, he starts, “I was...l” then he stops again. Shaking his head, he gives a shrug and says, “Magic of some kind. At least in my case.”

I don't suppose any of you happen to know how we got here?"
