Here to double check how Brutal Critical interacts with Spell Attacks. Brutal Critical says this:
Beginning at 9th level, you can roll one additional weapon damage die when determining the extra damage for a critical hit with a melee attack.
This increases to two additional dice at 13th level and three additional dice at 17th level.
I am wondering what happens when you land a critical hit with a melee spell attack such as shocking grasp or thorn whip (besides obviously doubling the normal dice for the attack). Both of those are considered melee attacks, but I'm getting hung up on "weapon damage die". Considering how Greatswords work, I am 100% sure you don't get to roll all the dice again, but I want to make sure I get this interaction right for the spellcasting subclass I am making.
I am leaning towards there being no interaction, due to the aforementioned lack of "weapon dice".
Brutal Critical would work with Booming Blade and Green-flame Blade because you still attack with the weapon though. I'd probably allow it for Shadow Blade too, based on the wording of the spell.

I think you're right. Spells don't have "weapon dice" to add.

Yeah, those make sense.
Those are weapon attacks, even though they are enabled by a spell, so they both definitely work.
