Hey all, I’m not giving my players an option to choose equipment or gold
I’m defaulting the group to rolling for their gold & purchasing whatever they can afford
One of the players comprised his list w/ half of his items @ no cost 😑
They weren’t magic items so I told him he could leave the items on the list until I get a “ruling” as to how I should handle this or if there’s a RAW someone can point out to me re: items which don’t seem to have a price tag
Will post his character sheet & clean it up on the hyperlink when I get to my computer
Limit your players to what's available in Chapter 5 of the Player's Handbook. Lots of adventures have items that are specific to those adventures that have no listed price because they're not actually available for purchase. The "explosive seed" is one such item. The dynamite is only found in the Dungeon Master's Guide; it's a modern item that only exists if the DM wants it to, and if they do, it's up to them to determine if it's even purchaseable at all and what price it carries if it is.

Lastly, I don’t believe he bought an “adventuring pack” but I’ll ask him shortly to be certain
Update: He has confirmed not only did he not buy a “pack” but he also never saw that as an option…
We’re all new to D&D
Since you all new. Limit equipment and stuff to the players handbook for the players for the first six months if you do 3 sessions a month. Less things to juggle . Also it appears you are the dm. If so, tell them you may have to take stuff away because you did know the power level. I had to take magic missile machine guns away from my first group. If you have the cash, buying some of the 1st level adventures from DM's Guild is a good idea. If you just steal the ideas from the module.

You get what you pay for. Free dynamite is unlikely to work the way you expect...

Thank you 🙏🏾
I wonder if there’s a equipment filter by source books 🤔
You definitely can for some things (magic items you can), but that functionality does not seem to be available for basic equipment, unfortunately :C

No Gaming is Better than Bad Gaming.
Thanks. I’ll be (first time DM) running Dragon of Icespire Peak
A few items added outside the PHB don't have set prices and the DM is supposed to decide if they even want it buyable or in their game at all.
A lot of non-Renaissance firearms in the DMG are like this. Just be glad he didn't add an antimatter rifle and a bunch of energy cells.
😯
😅
Anyway, the short answer is that if it doesn't have a cost, it can't be bought (without DM permission) unless it is part of a pack.
