Hi there! Sorry if this is covered in some sourcebook I haven’t found, but I can’t seem to figure out how monster’s immunity or resistance to nonmagical attacks interact with some magic item combinations.
If a character has a magic longbow using nonmagical arrows, is the damage magical or not? Or does the ammunition itself need to be enchanted to overcome resistance or immunity to nonmagical piercing damage?
I think requiring the players to locate magical arrows to overcome a boss would be a fun and interesting challenge and encourages careful strategy, as well as making the boss seem more fearsome. But would a simple +1 longbow, for example, be able to overcome immunity to nonmagical weapons? I don’t want to cheat the players out the usefulness of their items (and I’m aware I could homebrew specific invulnerabilities) but since so many common monsters have that resistance, could anybody help me out here?
