Hi! I'm currently starting my first DnD session as the DM, and was reading through the Lost Mines of Phandelver book that comes in the Starter Set. When reading the "Barthen's Provisions" section of Phandelver, it mentions that characters can buy adventuring gear. I thought it'd be cool to create my own inventory I could pass to the players as a kind of shop menu, but I became confused when I noticed the Adventuring Gear section in the physical starter book is different than the corresponding section in the Basic Rules compendium. For instance, there's no "Arcane Focus" list in the physical rulebook, and even in the "other adventuring gear list" the physical rulebook doesn't list the "abacus" as it does in the online compendium. Is there a reason for some items not being in the physical book? Which should I be using when making my inventory list?

Thanks for the help gang!
The rulebook of the Starter Set is limited on purpose. It lacks some things that do appear in the Basic Rules and the PHB.
So should I go ahead and just reference the Starter Set PHB since it corresponds with the LMoP adventure?
Not necessarily. It is up to you. If you have access to a more complete reference, I would use that one, but really it is as you prefer.
