How do I tell if something in the game is magical?
Game text explicitly states if an effect is magical. Effects created by spells and magic items are always magical. See “Magical Effect” in appendix C of the Player’s Handbook.
Magical Effect
An effect is magical if it is created by a spell, a magic item, or a phenomenon that a rule labels as magical.
Before 2024 Adamantine Weapons were expensive versions of silver weapons that were capable of bypassing the magical resistance and immunity of non magical damage of creatures and objects.
In 2024 it was just given a magical tag so it can do the same thing and eliminate the confusion of if a weapon is coated or created with the aforementioned substances does it count towards the non magical resistance or immunity.
Adamantine Weapons were and are the only things that have the ability to destroy other magical items and was never affected by anything that prevented or affected magical effects.
Tagging it as magical doesn’t make sense because anything that might Dispel, or suppress magic will do nothing to actually affect it, but yet here we are starting this new trend of answering if a Adamantine Weapon can be magically affected.
Thats why it was expensive to use, and even more difficult to find. Adamantine was a rare item and thats why in 2024 it has the uncommon tag. ( in reality it should have the rare to very rare tag.)

Are the properties of Adamantine Weapons magical or are they just a part of them being made with a certain material?
Meaning will they still auto-crit objects in an anti-magic field?

I go with nonmagical. Description just says its one of the hardest substances in existence. Seems like it will be just as hard in an anti magic field.
I agree, at least according to the SAC and the description of "Magical Effect":EDIT: sorry, I was wrong... I didn't notice it's now a Magic Item in 2024. See Plaguescarred's answer.
Adamantine Weapon may or may not be magical depending on version
2014 Xanathar's Guide to Everything: Nonmagical item
2024 Dungeon Master Guide: Magical item, uncommon.
