I am making a new character which has 3 levels in monk and I chose way of the long death in SCAG and looked at the first ability. The ability is that if you send something to 0 hitpoints you heal an amount. So as always, i thought of a way to exploit it. If you always have a bag of holding or any normal bag, you could just store a few low health creatures in there that you can just squash and health LOADS of health in a middle of a battle. So while i was looking though MM beast section i came across swarms, now I thought well how much does a swarm hold and how big will be the swarm if i change the amount of creatures in it. Beacuse this could be a way of compacting my healing strat.
So should there be a table of like amount of swarm creatures in a swarm and if you kill only one or two of the creatures, what does it end up as. also how can it change if you have a swarm of small or mediam creatures instead of tiny as they usually are.
I've looked at some articles but they only answer some questons so what does everyone think about this.
A Swarm creature is only counting as being reduced to 0 hit points once you reduce all its hit points, dealing damage before that doesnt qualify even if you kill parts of if.
First let me be clear, that I am against this manor of cheese. But anyway:
Swarms are not the way you want to go. 1 swarms are unnatural, usually the result of some other monster's influence. 2 swarms only count as 1 creature in terms of HP pool and thus death so wouldn't work.
You can still cram more than enough tiny monsters in a bag of holding for what you are going for. I recommend undead or constructs so they don't need air.
Also, be aware that it will likely involve a grapple check in addition to an attack (2 actions before extra attack) and might have a bag of rats biting your fingers. Is giving up 2 actions and 1-5 HP worth 7 THP? 100% not worth it mid battle, and barely worth it between battles.
You gain (monk level + wisdom modifier) temporary hit points when you do this. Since these are temporary hit points they don't stack, you can only reset them each time you do this.
Keeping any creature in a bag of holding is dangerous, since it probably won't want to be in there and will rip its way out - and then that causes further issues with the contents (and the creatures) being scattered in the Astral Plane.
Creatures won't live long in the bag anyway, since they'll only last for 10 minutes divided by the number of creatures - and there's no allowance in the magic item description for different sizes of creatures - so 10 insects don't really count as a "swarm".

Personally i only allow games features to work against meaningful threats #nobagofrats
