For the duration, you have advantage on all Charisma checks directed at one creature of your choice that isn’t hostile toward you. When the spell ends, the creature realizes that you used magic to influence its mood and becomes hostile toward you. A creature prone to violence might attack you. Another creature might seek retribution in other ways (at the DM’s discretion), depending on the nature of your interaction with it.
Psionic Devotion: When the spell ends, the target doesn’t become hostile to you.
So do they still know I used magic? My DM is new and so am I and we were wondering what would a proper reaction of an NPC (if anything) to being effected by this spell? Would they simply feel as though I were emitting some kind of magical aura and not react, essentially turning it into infinite charisma advantage? Or could an npc, like, I don't know. They are, in writing, not allowed to be hostile towards me for enchanting them. Does this mean they can't get upset or annoyed? But one could argue if I did it to someone who got annoyed by it repeatedly they would become hostile, which they are not allowed to do, so that wouldn't make sense.
well with the flavour of the spell in mind, it is ether a matter of them not knowing something ever happened to them, or the spell subtily altering their mood and them just being thankful that you did, maybe friends makes an person feel more generous or makes them feel happier, and so they dont realise you only used the spell to manipulate and lite to them ?

I'd say that the only part it changes is the automatic hostility. So they still know that you used magic on them. They might be angry about that, or they might not care, up to the DM. They might even become hostile for non-magical reasons (such as being annoyed that you tried to manipulate them). But they don't automatically turn hostile like they would for basic Friends.

How would you handle this?
