How do you run the math when calculating damage with to-hit chance factored in when you have either a second attack, like with the extra attack feature, or a "if you miss, attack again" feature like the gloom stalker ranger's stalker's furry ability? Specifically for needing something to hit on an attack in order to trigger, like a smite spell or the hail of thorns spell? It wouldn't function the same way advantage does. It should have an positive impact on the numbers, but not as great an impact as advantage. Come on, math wizards! I know you know!!!
Extra attack doesn't change the math for averages. For example, 1 attack that does 2d6+4 and 2 attacks that do 1d6+2, if all 3 attacks have the same hit chance, then both scenarios have the same average damage, but different probability curves of damage (which is more complicated but also less important).
"If you miss, attack again" would have the same likely hood of getting 1 hit as with advantage, but crit chance reduces. So if you don't factor crits, it is the same. Crit chance is normally 5%, and 9.75% with advantage. To calculate with miss:retry you can use this: 1-(.95×[miss chance]).
Extra attack wouldn't even affect the damage average of a smite spell that needs to hit to factor in? One attack or ten attacks, the to-hit ratio damage of the smite spell wouldn't change at all?

If you are only going to use it on the first hit that turn and not on multiple hits, then you can calculate it like advantage. If you plan to smite with every hit, you just factor that damage into the damage of the hit and apply hit chance normally.
Yes. A “The next time you hit a creature with a weapon attack...” kind of thing. One and done.
Just calculate it separately as if it had advantage. Or more specifically: multiply the odds of each attack missing together and subtract that value from 1, this will fully account for number of attacks and if those attacks have advantage, etc. But if you are factoring crits into your average (I usually don't), use the same crit chance as your attacks (or average crit chance if they are different).
And for a "...you choose on a hit..." kind of thing like a divine mite or battle master maneuver? How would that be crunched with to-hit chance?
I pretty much already covered that. You can either factor it into each attack or separate it based on how many times you plan to use it then calculate the chance of that number of attacks hitting.

Amazing! Thank you!

I see. I didn't know if it made any kind of difference being more "on command" or not.
Thank you again!
