Ok, So this may be a little out there but I am trying to think of a way to make a single character a 5 man squad. imagine if a 5 man squad of cadians from warhammer 40k came back in time through a portal and then a single player wanted to play them as their character. i've looked into some homebrew rules for hivemind-esque characters but i am trying to see if there is a vanilla way to incorporate this idea into a single character, because 5 weaker characters would be too much work in combat and would be too powerful at higher levels in dnd 5e. does anyone think they can help or are creative enough to find a solution that would make this somewhat possible? because i am not. haha
If you are just wanting it to be purely cosmetic and in combat you still only occupy 1 space, have 1 action, and 1 HP pool then Just DM approval is needed really.
Then Would there be a way to do it that occupies different squares or has different health pools without being different character sheets? Or are you limited to one of each of those?
Other than potentially using the Sidekicks Rules from Tashas (and even then its a stretch to imagine more than one of them), I don't really see a RAW way to get what you are looking for here. D&D is based on roleplay and cooperation, so the concept of roleplaying that many characters seems both difficult (unless you like Gollum/Smeagol interactions a lot) and likely to overwhelm the other players chances to play/roleplay (assuming you are playing in a group)

Mirror image? Retainer background feature?

The closest I can think of is the retainer background feature which gives you 3 commoners. Only 1 character has class levels still.
In order to do a real many as one character would need homebrew.
