can you duel wield for multiple attacks? say gunfighter fire a pistol shot hits rolls damage the fires a second pistol shot and hits rolls damage no modifiers. then on the second attack can he fire the second weapon again or no?
Your main reference for Two Weapon Fighting (or Dual Wielding as you call it), is in the Player's Handbook, page 195.
When you take the Attack Action and Attack with a light melee weapon that you’re holding in one hand, you can use a Bonus Action to Attack with a different light melee weapon that you’re holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus Attack, unless that modifier is negative.
For the Gunfighter class, you receive the 'Akimbo Shooting' ability at level 1, which essentially allows you to do the above with a light gunsmith weapon.
When you make an attack with a gunsmith weapon that has the light property, you can make an additional attack with another gunsmith weapon that has a light weapon using your bonus action, without adding your ability modifier to the damage. At 11th level, you can add your ability modifier to the damage of that attack.
The important bit in relation to your question, is that you must use your Bonus Action to make a second attack. And on page 189 of the PHB:
You can take only one bonus action on your turn, so you must choose which bonus action to use when you have more than one available.
So that would mean, no - you cannot fire your second pistol on your second attack, as you have already used your Bonus action firing your off-hand weapon on your previous attack.
can you duel wield for multiple attacks? say gunfighter fire a pistol shot hits rolls damage the fires a second pistol shot and hits rolls damage no modifiers. then on the second attack can he fire the second weapon again or no?
So what I think you are asking is how two weapon fighting works with the extra attack feature.
Chequers provided the rules for 2WF before talking about some homebrew class. Here they are again:
When you take the Attack Action and Attack with a light melee weapon that you’re holding in one hand, you can use a Bonus Action to Attack with a different light melee weapon that you’re holding in the other hand. You don't add your ability modifier to the damage of the bonus Attack, unless that modifier is negative.
Your example (using pistols) wouldn't work since you have to use melee weapons.
But if you do use melee weapons, you can do this:
Attack action attack weapon 1
Attack action extra attack weapon 1 (or 2)
Bonus action 2WF attack weapon 2 (or 1 only if you attacked with weapon 2) without damage modifiers.
You can still do steps 1 and 2 with ranged weapons as long as they are 1 handed (don't even need light property).
I was referencing a gunfighter class, that I assumed he was using, as he’s attempting to use two pistols, which (as you say) wouldn’t be allowed usually.
If this isn’t the homebrew class being used, and the OP perhaps didn’t know the rules around two weapon fighting requiring melee weapons, then disregard my advice.
