I haven’t pre-ordered the obelisk book yet, but am considering it. My players are nearing the end of the Lost Mines adventure (the one we got free here).
Taking a look at the table of contents, it looks like wave echo cave (the mines} is covered in chapter 4. Does it therefore seem reasonable to those more in the know (like those who got early access) to simply proceed from chapter 5 of the new book? Is that as seamless as it appears, or has the rewriting of the Lost Mines portion made that a chore or an impossibility? I hate the idea of starting over.
I've never been more disappointed in a 5e adventure book, and that's saying something considering some of the questionable releases they've had in recent years.
The author or authors behind this work appear to be disconnected from what made "Lost Mine of Phandelver" both accessible and enjoyable. Without giving away any spoilers, the two halves of this adventure couldn't be more disparate in terms of theme and tone. It almost gives the impression that a significant portion of this content was initially generated by AI, such as ChatGPT, and then edited to conceal its origins.
Additionally, it's worth noting that the insistence on introducing diversity where it wasn't necessary is perplexing. The decisions made by this writer elicit more than a few eye rolls due to the unnecessary changes they've implemented.

I've only skimmed my preorder copy so far but I do think it's seamless. The book is basically two parts: 1. Phandelver as you know it. 2. Phandelver after the "lost mines" story completes.
It looks a bit more railroady in that there are scenes in a specific order, but does some fun and cool things and I plan on running it.
It also touched on themes that are in my home campaign so I get double the wins.
