I'm starting an Eberron campaign soon, in a space-race setting. The players will be hired to collect relics guarded by powerful creatures and bring them back in order to help their patron win the race. But I don't have many Ideas for the relics and materials they'll need. I want to put one in a volcano and one guarded by a creature I found called a storm elemental. Anyone got Ideas for more relics/guardians? They'll mainly be going to sky islands.
You could have an ancient relic that is the source of great power called a zero point module that could power the ship.(Stargate Atlantis). You could have a dwarf artificer that you need to build the heat shield for entering atmospheres. You could have an advanced species that are amazing mathematicians who you need to kidnap one of them to plot the ship’s course. The storm elemental could be used to negate air resistance when taking off.
I'm a strong proponent of non-epic campaign goals.
Like, the challenges involved can be ever so serious - but the endgoal of the campaign is to return water to your home village after goblins diverted the river. Why'd the goblins divert the river? Well, they need the water to run their forgeworks. Why are goblins running a forgeworks in the first place? Well, that's because the goblin witchking is helping the nefarious Overlord subjugate the lands of men (of which your village is a part).
Bla bla, main point: Keep it simple.
