Not to be that guy, but that's basically what the entire Players Handbook is all about.
On a more serious note, bring your copy of the PHB, your character sheet, a notepad & pencil for taking notes, and your dice. And maybe some snacks. That's about all you should need.
I'd say one thing to bring is a print out with all of your specific class abilities that you can quickly and easily reference. That way each time you want to do something you can just glance at your "cheat sheet" and know everything you can do and how it works, instead of having to flip through the player's handbook to find every little thing. This is especially useful if you're planning to play as a spellcaster... it will save you a ton of time and headache to have one place to look for all the details of the specific spells your character knows.
#1 - Bring yourself and a good attitude. Some way to take notes, snacks (nice if players bring snacks for the DM & others too)
Best advice i can give you is to talk to the DM & possibly even other players about what you may need to bring. Have you already made your character? DM may have Players Handbook (PHB) and even dice, character sheets, premade characters etc Ideally you have your own dice.
Find out if you are expected to have your character built prior to attending.
It's helpful to have some idea what kind of character you want to play. Do you want your character to talk to NPCs a lot? Do you prefer hitting foes from afar? Or do you like to wade into the middle of combat? Or do you want to explore, find out secrets, etc.? This will help your DM give you helpful advice on building your PC.
Do what you want really. I like to make ridiculous characters sometimes, serious ones, childish, evil, and the funnest part to me is making one so random no one will predict him.
I will be a player not a DM.

Or if you are going to be using DDB during the session then a phone, tablet, or laptop and maybe dice and snacks.
Different games require different things.
At our current game here is what I take:
Laptop and charger
Dice
Minis to stand in for chars
Some bring dice trays
Some bring things to use on the map. Look at the Hero quest board game for ideas.
Something to take notes on or with.
Snacks and Drinks for me and maybe to share.

Do you know what campaign the DM is running?
Is this going to be session #1 or a Session 0?

Also known as CrafterB and DankMemer.
Here, have some homebrew classes! Subclasses to? Why not races. Feats, feats as well. I have a lot of magic items. Lastly I got monsters, fun, fun times.
