So basically the character is a Simic Hybrid - and this is purely for means of it being a mutated humanoid. If Simics aren't in the campaign - then the race is being used for the character's backstory. Anyway, I wanted to make a character that an escaped experiment/test-subject, with him now being a mutated monstrosity currently only semi-capable of basic speech and having animalistic features. For those that know about the Simic Hybrid Race features, you should know that as the race has a feature involving the gain of set animal traits with certain functions (ie: spit acid for a natural ranged weapon with corrosive damage, manta ray-like fins to allow gliding, two more limbs (either claws or tentacles) for grappling enemies, etc.). What I was wondering is that the character has been reduced to a primal behavior and behaves like an animal due to the trauma of the transformation into what he is, surviving a decade of experimentation/tests and another decade alone in the wilderness surviving alone because everyone assumes him a monster, and he's incapable of telling them who/what he is.
He can speak common, but not elaborately due to the mutation affecting/putting strain on his vocal cords and/or motor-speech part of the nervous system. That, and (if the DM sees it as an interesting trait as well) the pharyngeal jaws he has from the eel genes he received. This coupled with the Haunted One background, I decided to have him be fluent in Deep Speech with how I've heard that is a language mostly consisting of growls, trills, and other monstrous noises - sounds he can now make with little difficulty.
Onto the reason behind this after telling you what I hope is enough to get the basics of the character idea. Because of the character's backstory, origin, and the idea that they're a human turned into a genetic monster, he doesn't necessarily use physical weapons (as in swords, axes, spears, etc.). Because of this and the genetic mutation he went through, would it be a cool idea if instead of picking up weapons from enemies, instead, the character gained genes (or "essences", to keep it the fantasy aspect) from enemies with natural weapons to use or grow ("equip") when he wants to use them? If he wants magic weapons/traits, perhaps a specific essence from a monster or enemy that has those (i.e. basilisk for petrifying gaze, winter wolf for freeze breath, mimic to gain corrosive touch, etc.). Those are just ideas or examples, and not actual ideas for I have planned to use
I should've also brought up that I was planning on making him a Path of the Beast Barbarian, which for those that don't know (some may be new to DnD) are able to gain an animalistic quality when they rage and can alter a specific trait of their form during a short or long rest, such as:
Climbing: You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check.
Jumping: When you jump, you can make a Strength (Athletics) check and extend your jump by a number of feet equal to the check’s total. You can make this special check only once per turn.
Swimming: You gain a swimming speed equal to your walking speed, and you can breathe underwater.
I think this belongs in the General section or Story & Lore section, not Feedback. The Feedback section here deals with feedback about the platform itself.
Whether I (or anyone else on the internet) think it is cool or not is kind of irrelevant. Talk the character concept over with your GM and players, since they are the ones that actually play with you. While I think the concept is fine, since the concept is kind of a little out there, make sure you run it by your GM first.
Sorry about that, this is my first time starting a thread - and I'm didn't know about this section nor where to find the Story and Lore section. Thanks for the feedback though :)

I second Path of the Beast. Sounds like 100% what you're looking for.
