It’s been a while since I’ve played 5e (lots of pathfinder of late) and am about to join a new campaign. Anybody have interesting builds for a character. I like to play a lot of martial dex type characters but am open to anything you guys come up with. Thanks :)
I am partial to taking a level of fighter to start, then 3 levels of warlock (most people go with Hexblade). Choose Chain as your Pact to get an advanced scout, free advantage from the help action, intelligent assistant, battlefield delivery system, etc. Then continue with fighter into whichever subclass feels fun. Again most people will go Battlemaster, but Rune Knight and Echo Knight are newer options that pack some power. The bonus is you can really focus on CHR for combat with Hexblade which also boosts your social skill prowess for role playing. Your strength can be kept at 15 if you want heavy armor, but medium armor with a Dex of 14 should be keen enough. I enjoy options as a player and this can let you have tons of options for combat malleability and open up a ton of role playing opportunities out of combat.

IMHO, Earthdawn is still the best fantasy realm, Shadowrun is the best Sci-Fi realm, and Dark Sun is the best D&D realm.
A gimmick character I've been working on for a bit is a Grung Druid/Ranger that just tacks on extra damage on fairly mundane attacks.
The basic concept is to be a Circle of Spores Druid and wield a spear. With Symbiotic Entity, that means each Successful attack deals 1d8 Piercing + 1d6 Necrotic + The Grung's Racial Poison (2d4 Poison damage if the target fails a CON save). You also get a very re-usable Reaction to deal more damage. Then take 5 levels of Swarmkeeper Ranger to get Extra Attack, plus Gathered Swarm to be able to deal an additional 1d6 Piercing damage each turn. Ranger can also nab Hunter's Mark for an additional 1d6 of damage. After that point the plan is to go back to Druid and take that all the way up... mostly this is because this character is already pretty well covered for combat, and Druid impacts temp HP gained from Symbiotic Entity and Druid Spells are overall better than Ranger spells.
Like I said, this is mostly a gimmick character. Symbiotic Entity is a full action to activate, so you've either gotta activate it before combat kicks off or spend a turn activating it. There's certainly plenty of other stuff you could tack on to throw in extra damage (Rage, Sneak Attack, etc.) but I don't really like to multiclass with more than 2 classes, and Druid/Ranger have pretty good synergy already.
Both of those sound like awesome options thanks guys. That hex blade fighter sounds like a lot of fun and I’ll probably look into doing that maybe with an arcane archer fighter subclass.
Barbarian/Rogue is a surprisingly workable combo, especially beast totem and swashbuckler. Make sure you only get hit when you damn-well feel like it, and quarter the damage when you do.
