But I'm getting to my question. I have the feeling, that the main part of the community is pretty angry about the changes that come with one d&d. I understand that the new OGL is a big problem but is this all or are there more things people are angry about? I read some of the one d&d material and articles that cover changes from 5e to one d&d. I think it's just a different way to play the game, not better or worst than 5e. But in every post on social media from dnd the only comments mention how bad dnd has become and so on.
I don't want to step on anyone's toes, I'm just curious why nearly everyone seems to dislike one d&d.
I don’t dislike 1D&D, I like many of the changes. And look forward to what else will be released in the coming year or so. But just like everything else in life you can never please everyone at the same time. People have different play styles of how they like to run their games, what they want to get out of their games etc. So some, like me, will like the changes and some will dislike those very same changes.
But right now, for the last week or so, the bombshell of the leaked OGL has many people so agitated that this is pretty much all you hear. If it wasn’t for the OGL controversy you would probably see quite a mix of outlooks on the 1D&D UA’s
My take on one D&D is that I need to see a lot more then what has currently been shown since to me Lore and writing are more important generally then the internal mechanics of a game system.
And I'm sure that will come in time, but without those being present I'm just kind of Saitama_Ok.jpeg
OneD&D was seemed to be going just fine. People were giving feed back and their opinions were targeted at some changes more than others. The quick drop of DM's can't crit and they already revised the Ardling. Show that it was a healthy process.
The OGL drama. Wow. Going forward I expect any everything they try to be viewed with scorn. I just don't think that for a lot of people they are going to turn their view around. They have committed not just to being upset at parts of the OGL but that it is evidence of "evil greed" at the heart of Wizards.
The Han Solo movie was pretty good but it suffered at the box office because a large contingent of angry fans were protesting the Last Jedi by not going to see Solo. My fear is that no matter how good OneD&D is the negative tide is going to be a lot stronger. I don't think people will be able to separate it from where they are now.
For instance how many people just call OneD&D a new edition despite the fact that the approach is minor changes and streamlining what is already there and that fact that it will be backwards compatible with 5e. Even people who were happy with OneD&D just took the view that no matter what Wizards says its 6th Edition.

This infers that there is any upside to the new OGL that people are missing which is just... no.

The whole point of the 1D&D UA is the mechanics. And the approach WotC seems to be taking since Tasha’s is that Lore will be more tied to setting books than core rule books like the PHB, DMG, MM. if you are looking for anything in-depth as far as lore goes with any of the play test material you will be disappointed.

Hence why I can't really form as much of an oppinion on it.

Exactly my point. In a thread about OneD&D overall someone's opinion about the OGL overrides any conversation about OneD&D.
The OGL 1.1 is a big hit to people's moral at WotC. As for 1D&D/6e there is a bit of controversy as well. There are many good changes in 1D&D that many like but there are also some big changes that many don't like. Like Ardlings which seems like a catch all low effort to replace animal kin races and originally seemed like they were a replacement to the Aasimar. Then there also the rogue and bard. The bard just seems to have lost their uniqueness while the rogue got hit with a nerf bat to straight to the face.

I don't think other animal species options are not going away. I think that they have found them popular enough they want an out of the box option in the Player's Handbook. Being backwards compatible old species will still work as well. Make sure you add it to the survey results.

Solo: A Star Wars Story was hurt far more by it's release window. Being being sandwiched between two highly anticipated Disney films (Avengers: Infinity War and The Incredibles 2) and coming out only six months after the previous film; there just wasn't enough interest by the general public. Fans, contrary to the echo chambers of the Internet, don't actually matter that much in the grand scheme of things. There aren't usually enough of them to be worth pandering to.
And that may have been part of the company's gamble. How many players and Dungeon Masters are, or were, actually fans of D&D and Wizards of the Coast? How many people play simply because of name-recognition? How many play because they're fans of something else, like Critical Role or Dimension 20, and D&D is─for now─part of that identity?
There's been some dismissiveness on both sides of this. I don't like being that person, but it's true. At least some people in the company, given the leaked missives, view us as "obstacles" between them and their money. Which is insane. We also have community members, YouTubers and other commentators, blowing off company statements and saying whatever they want. Neither contributes to a healthy ecosystem.

Thanks for your reply.
I guess you are right. And tbh the new OGL is a disaster if the leaks are correct. So it's logical that this overshadows everything else about 1d&d.

One D&D is a non-starter without even looking at it, if it doesn't come with OGL 1.0a.
Info, Inflow, Overload. Knowledge Black Hole Imminent!
