I was reading up on the Genie subclass and it occurred to me that a magical ring/lantern containing raw elemental forces that grants powers only limited by the imagination (but is just used for flying and firing energy blasts most of the time) would be perfect for a green lantern inspired warlock. I am planning to go with a Dao patron for this character but I also think it could be fun to homebrew a "Guardians of the Universe" patron that grants spells like spiritual Weapon, Bigby's Hand and Wall of Force if I want to push this concept even further.
I was just wondering if anybody has any ideas on what spells, pacts and invocations would suit this kind of warlock?
Mordenikeins sword it sucks but fits, wall of force as you said but really any of the wall ofs, spiritual guardians.
Also the new summon spells work pretty well for this.
I keep editing, not spells but invocations around eldritch blast can do this, the visual on a eldritch blast that pulls might be different than one that pushes for example.
Telekinesis, flavored as the ring emitting energy that manipulates the thing you're moving, rather than just doing so with your mind.
Globe Of Invulnerability would make a solid 6th-level Mystic Arana option
For a low-level Patron ability, grant the Minor Illusion and Mage Hand cantrips, and possibly Tenser's Floating Disk(though given that it's a leveled spell, maybe limit its uses per day or per rest)
At a higher level, I think it's only natural to grant a limited amount of flight.
While this already requires the GM to get you bigbys a interesting take would be if with pact of the blade he let you create huge weapons that were then wielded by the bigbys hand. Probably not as a bonus action, but as your normal attack action based on bigbys being able to mimic your hands movements.
Genie is an interesting choice. I prefer Hexblade for 5 levels and then multiclass into Divine Soul Sorcerer for Single Ability Dependency. (Wizard or Cleric would require two casting abilities and would be harder to max out) Warlock gives you pact of the blade which allows you to summon any weapon you want and you are instantaneously proficient with it. Hexblade allows you to wield it with Cha, so that fits, too. Hexblade allows you to use medium armor, so you could do that OR get the Armor of Shadows invocation. (Mage Armor could be a good equivalent for the lantern costume) As for other invocations, Repelling Blast and Grasp of Hadar allow you to use your "power ray" to pull or push your opponents. By level five, you can swap out one of your EB invocations for Improved Pact Weapon, which allows you to make your pact weapon a ranged weapon (bows or crossbows) and you can get the flight spell. Or you can stick with melee and get thirsting blade for two attacks with your pact weapon. (I'd do that) While a warlock, I would get the Fighting Initiate feat for unarmed fighting. Superheroes always can "mix it up" with fisticuffs in the comics. (Although with the pact of the blade and all the spells you are about to get, maybe you don't need it, so boost Cha or get warcaster for concentration help and opportunity attack spells) Why stop at Warlock 5? Because at level six, Hexblades get accursed spector which forces an enemy you kill to come back as a spector and serve you for a day. Gross. Not very Lantern-y. Anyway, everything you need to be a great Green Lantern can be found in Divine Soul Sorcerer. First you have access to all cleric and sorcerer spells. So you can summon another weapon with Spiritual Weapon. Guiding Bolt can be a bigger power ray. Hold Person can be a glowing green hand (Because you don't have access to Bigsby's ) Animate Objects, Ice Knife, spells like this that summon or conjure things into being Telekinesis, Levitate, etc. By going Divine Soul, you also get access to healing magic, which you can flavor as regenerating skin and bone for a more sci-fi theme. My games aren't crazy enough to use branded characters and I wouldn't want to saddle the DM with a cosmic background, but you could.

If you take the Mask of Many Faces invocation right away, you can cast Disguise Self at will, for the spiffy superhero costume changes.
I actually made a Green Lantern Paladin a long time ago, but this warlock idea is pretty cool

I love the idea that the hour short rest is the character "recharging their power ring".
