Banishment (...)
You banish a creature that you can see within range into a labyrinthine demiplane. The target remains there for the duration or until it escapes the maze.
The target can take a Study action to try to escape. When it does so, it makes a DC 20 Intelligence (Investigation) check. If it succeeds, it escapes, and the spell ends.
When the spell ends, the target reappears in the space it left or, if that space is occupied, in the nearest unoccupied space.
Oh, wow, it no longer gets auto-ended by Minotaurs or Goristro demons? Awesome!
I don't understand why you can instantly escape the maze if you succeed on an Intelligence check. I would flavor it more as a sphinx appearing and saying "If you can figure out my riddle, you can leave" and then have them make the check to guess the answer each turn.
Yeah, that's what I thought. To make it feel more like a maze, I would impose multiple Intelligence checks (the creature has to many many correct turns) in order for the creature to escape. But this spell is still good, especially against big, dumb brutes. Give this spell to a high level archmage or lich as a DM and use it on martial characters or any character with an Intelligence dump stat (Intelligence is the most commonly dumped stat if you aren't a Wizard or Artificer).
or rogues
Still feels a bit off since it still concentration. I get that it auto works but eh. I think back to Vecna using it on Grog and feel like Banishment would have been fine.
