For the duration, Celestials, Elementals, Fey, Fiends, and Undead have Disadvantage on attack rolls against you. You can end the spell early by using either of the following special functions.
Break Enchantment. As a Magic action, you touch a creature that is possessed by or has the Charmed or Frightened condition from one or more creatures of the types above. The target is no longer possessed, Charmed, or Frightened by such creatures.
Dismissal. As a Magic action, you target one creature you can see within 5 feet of you that has one of the creature types above. The target must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be sent back to its home plane if it isn’t there already. If they aren’t on their home plane, Undead are sent to the Shadowfell, and Fey are sent to the Feywild.

What the heck!?! Protection from Evil and Good protects against Fey, Fiend, Undead, Celestial, AND Aberrations. This doesn't do Aberrations?? Why would a 1st level spell be broader in coverage than a 5th level covering the same purview, essentially? Make me understand.
Adding Aberrations to the list would make sense since Possession distinguishes between the value of Protection from Evil and Good and Dispel Evil and Good.
I'm looking at some wording here, it says "The target must succeed on a Charisma saving throw or be sent back to its home plane if it isn’t there already." These are two important notes because it immediately says afterward, "if they aren’t on their home plane, Undead are sent to the Shadowfell, and Fey are sent to the Feywild." In edge cases like with old reborn or hexbloods, it means that on their home plane this has no effect on them. BUT if they are on another plane, like in the hells or something, they aren't sent to their home plane they're instead sent to the Shadowfell or Feywild. Is this a typo? It's different on the older version of the spell stating, "If they are already on their home plane". I have two player characters that are undead and I'm not sure how this spell works in relation to them.
If an Undead is not on their home plane, they're sent to the Shadowfell, even if that isn't their home plane; likewise with Fey and the Feywild. Keep in mind that if you're on the material plane, which where a lot of adventures happen, the vast majority of undead you encounter are likely to be on their home plane. This behavior makes the spell actually useful against them.
It seems unlikely to be a typo, as that behavior is the same as in the 2014 version. However, it may be that whoever wrote the 2014 version didn't anticipate there being player characters with those creature types (there weren't any playable species with those types in the 2014 PHB) and it was just an oversight that it didn't get updated in the 2024 version.
