One creature of your choice that you can see within range hears a discordant melody in its mind. The target makes a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, it takes 3d6 Psychic damage and must immediately use its Reaction, if available, to move as far away from you as it can, using the safest route. On a successful save, the target takes half as much damage only.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The damage increases by 1d6 for each spell slot level above 1.
Huh, this spell now needs line of sight to work. That's unfortunate, seeing as it was one of a handful of spells that work when you're blinded or the target turns invisible. Being deafened doesn't protect you from it anymore, so I guess there's that.
"... as far away from you as it can." How far is that? Does the target use its full Speed as part of the Reaction? What if it already used all or some of its movement on its last turn? This spell no longer makes sense.
Common sense would suggest that it moves as far as its speed allows, like it did in the old version. Whether it used its movement on its previous turn has no impact on what reactions can do.
Being deafend wouldnt protect you bc the spell doesnt actually produce a sound, rather it makes the target think they heard something, therefore the spell makes the targets brain to trick it into thinking it heard something. It also specifically says "mind" in the description...
That's what I was saying, that being deafened doesn't protect you from this spell. The 2014 version specifically said deafened creatures are immune to it, so the 2024 version got rid of that and made this spell more of a mental assault.
Deafened creatures used to automatically succeed, taking half damage. They weren't immune.
Hmm, you're right. Thank you. I think it's cool that the new version doesn't care about actually hearing the whispers.
Does anyone know why this isn't an option for the Fey Touched Feat? I have the digital version of the player's handbook purchased as well. This is a bit frustrating.
Are you using the 2014 or 2024 version of the Fey Touched feat? And which version of the Player's Handbook do you have?
