One creature that you can see within range must make a Wisdom saving throw. On a successful save, the target dances comically until the end of its next turn, during which it must spend all its movement to dance in place.
On a failed save, the target has the Charmed condition for the duration. While Charmed, the target dances comically, must use all its movement to dance in place, and has Disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws and attack rolls, and other creatures have Advantage on attack rolls against it. On each of its turns, the target can take an action to collect itself and repeat the save, ending the spell on itself on a success.
Slightly less Irresistible now.
Otto's entirely resistible Dance
They ruined the bit with this one
so this is just a way worse hold monster now
Guys, this is *guaranteed* to reduce a creature's speed to zero for one turn, ignoring Legendary Resistances too since it just happens. If they fail, they have to use an entire Action to try a saving throw again, which they can just fail again.
Right, the behavior is actually pretty much the same as the 2014 version, just worded a bit differently. Either way, they can't move for their entire first turn after it's cast on them.
The weird thing is that they took away the language that says creatures who are immune to the Charmed condition are immune to the spell entirely. This leaves a weird loophole where if you cast it on someone who's immune to Charmed, they are subjected to the dance effect for one turn if they succeed on the saving throw, but not if they fail it.
Elegant and powerful as a 6th level spell should be. Being able to compel an Ancient Red Dragon to dance on command is no joke (in its lair, even). I wonder what that would look like. Probably terrifying. :)
ah yes let me just force the CR 28 demon lord to do the floss for 5 rounds XD

So if you are immune to the charmed condition you can just choose to fail the save and nothing happens. This is a very strange interaction and really just worked better the other way.
That's true, and it's not the only thing that got a weird interaction like this in the 2024 rules. It is very weird.
It occurs to me, though, that to do that you have to know that this specific spell is what someone is forcing you make a saving throw against, and I'm not sure it's reasonable to expect someone to know that.
It's important to remember that starting in version 2024, creatures can choose to fail their save.
