One Humanoid you can see within range must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or have the Charmed condition for the duration. The target has Advantage on the save if you or your allies are fighting it. Whenever the target takes damage, it repeats the save, ending the spell on itself on a success.
You have a telepathic link with the Charmed target while the two of you are on the same plane of existence. On your turn, you can use this link to issue commands to the target (no action required), such as “Attack that creature,” “Move over there,” or “Fetch that object.” The target does its best to obey on its turn. If it completes an order and doesn’t receive further direction from you, it acts and moves as it likes, focusing on protecting itself.
You can command the target to take a Reaction but must take your own Reaction to do so.
Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. Your Concentration can last longer with a spell slot of level 6 (up to 10 minutes), 7 (up to 1 hour), or 8+ (up to 8 hours).
I think it got nerfed technically? The previous version has the following text "You can use your action to take total and precise control of the target. Until the end of your next turn, the creature takes only the actions you choose, and doesn't do anything that you don't allow it to do."
It's absent in this version.
That's what it looks like. Without that clause, 'Dominate Person' is more like 'Continuous Suggestion' instead. Depending on the DM, the moment the 'Dominated Person' can act how they like, they can basically perform detrimental actions against you despite being "Dominated".
Damn that was the coolest part :(
This version is trash. Sticking with 2014
Didn't upcasting let you target multiple creatures before?
Having a pink picture is pretty cute for a forbidden curse.
Great Old One warlocks not getting this is a crime.
Could we please get links on these pages to the other version of the spell? i.e. 2024-2014/2014-2024. I Google spells all the time and if the wrong one comes up I want to be able to go directly to the alternate
Like if it didnt got nerfed enough by the removing of all humanoids ennemies from the manual (either changed type like kobolds and goblins or are now the nice guys for some reasons like orcs.)
I have a GOOlock/Paladin who has this spell through a campaign feature...Officially, I can now use this like telepathic control without saying or doing anything. I can also silently lead this with Mind Sliver so that they have -1d4 on their save vs being dominated. Brilliant.
Why do people think it got nerfed? You can still command it to do anything you like, unlike Suggestion which has clear limits, and it no longer takes your action. If you mean that it no longer follows your instruction on how to achieve the command, you can simply roll that into your command if that's important to you. Simply tell it "Do X in this exact way". There is no upper word limit.
It does allow the dominated person to do other actions, unlike previously, but since it has to pursue your command to the best of its ability, it can't use that to sabatoge your command, so I don't see how relevant it is.
