Many choose to stay close to home, but a select few people are brave enough to leave behind what they know in exchange for discovering the vast world beyond your home town or village! You love learning and seeing new things, and your wanderlust grows stronger with every exotic new location you visit. You might be a charismatic, friendly travel wanting to meet everyone who looks interesting, or maybe you are a knowledge-focused, quiet traveler. Whatever your personality, all you know is that the wild world calls you, and you simply cannot ignore it.

Traveler Types

Many people travel for different reasons. Why does your character stay on the open road?

d8 Traveler Types
1 I seek the knowledge of far-away religions or magic.
2 I love history: If you can tell me about an ancient king, brutal war, ghost story, or famous landmark, I might stay in town longer!
3 I love tasting exotic new foods and learning new recipes to share.
4 Meeting new people is the best part of travel! The crazier the character, the more interested I am.
5 I travel to observe nature's wonders, and all the natural world has to offer.
6 Art and tradition is what I seek: Learning about music, paintings, poetry, or clothes make traveling worth while.
7 I love collecting trinkets, bobbles, knickknacks, and tchotchkes. I will always find a souvenir to remember my adventures.
8 Buildings, castles, ruins, and dungeons are endlessly fascinating to me. I could wander the streets for hours admiring the architecture of every place I visit.

Feature: Intuitive

Your knowledge of the land and how roads tend to go makes you slightly keener on the technicalities of travel than most. You can find shortcuts, alternate paths, and scenic routes to just about any place, though the DM will decide if your routes are successful or not. If they are, your routes may cut down travel-time, reduce hostile encounters, or come across a town for a supply run when you need it.

Suggested Characteristics

Many travelers have their own quirks and ways to remember their adventures Some collect trinkets, save art they drew or painted, or collect books or recipes from far off places. You should also determine your motivation for travel: Does your character want to be left alone while they read about the town's religious importance or historic landmarks, or are htey chatting away to every patron they see at a bar?

Variant Feature: Friend of a Friend

Alternatively to the Intuitive feature, your long line of friends from other towns can try to get you in touch with their contacts in other places, making it easier for you and your friends to find cheaper lodging and food, better sales prices at markets, or quicker mailing times. Talk to your DM about the types of contacts you might have, and how they could benefit you in the future.
