You used to own a tavern (or still do), where serving food and drinks to adventurers was the norm. They spent their gold as they recalled embellished stories of heroic deeds and whimsical journeys. These tales inspired something within you, spurring you onto your own adventure for riches, fame, or your own stories to recount in a tavern. Your skills in tending to a tavern will aid you in discussions and negotiations across the world and will hopefully bring you back to your own tavern once again.
- Skill Proficiencies: Insight and Persuasion
- Tool Proficiencies: Brewer's supplies
- Languages: One non-exotic language of your choice.
- Equipment: A mess kit, a set of Brewer's supplies, a set of common clothes, and a pouch containing 12 GP.
Spending so much time with your patrons and hearing the best stories from across the land, you're adept at talking with people to get the latest gossip. Either through coin, charm, or booze you are able to acquire rumors from merchants, guild members, adventurers, and other bartenders from any town or city you travel to. These rumors range from who fancies whom, where to get the best deal on armaments, or odd jobs that need to be done without asking too many questions.
Suggested Characteristics
Tavern owners generally provide food, drink, and/or shelter to the weary travelers who pay the right price. With so many people coming and going through their lives, they are adept at speaking to the myriad of the masses. Their personality is shaped from the experiences they have vicariously gathered from their patrons and their ideals, bonds, and flaws are usually tied to the type of barkeep they are.

Instead of owning a tavern, you worked in one as a Bartender, serving the drinks and acquiring tips from the patrons. Although the set of skills is very similar to owning a tavern, you are not tied down in the same way and can easily drop what you're doing and join a party drinking at one of the many tables.
Taking this variant can add extra flavor to one's background (i.e. how did you leave things with the tavern owner?) as you were constantly involved with the patrons. Replace the non-exotic language with an exotic language of your choice.
