- Tool Proficiencies: Vehicles (land OR water), and one additional language related to your ward (common or exotic).
- Equipment: A letter, medal, token, symbol, or other marker designating you the protector of your ward, a spyglass, a set of common clothes, and a pouch with 10 gp.
Roll or choose what you protected many years ago or are still protecting today.

Through years of experience, your heightened senses and vigilant eyes pick up even the slightest hint of danger. You are ready to fight or flee at a moment's notice, and nothing will catch you off guard as long as you are around. While you are on watch, you have advantage on Perception or Insight checks, and cannot be surprised as long as you are conscious.
Suggested Characteristics
Think of how you were put into the situation you are in: Did someone plead with you with their last dying breaths to protect your ward, or make you take it with threat of violence? Were you forced into your position, or did you willfully volunteer? Did you do this out of pity, or self-benefit? Talk with your DM about how you were made Guardian of your ward, and what exactly you're protecting it from.
When it comes to people who want to hurt you and your ward, you are practically an expert. An off-putting smile, the cadence of a sentence, even the slightest gleam in a suspicious person's eyes make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up, and you can usually tell a friend from a foe very quickly. If you are around an individual that may have malicious intent towards you, your ward, or your allies, you will know within a minute of interacting with them.
If you are in a crowd and would like to use this feature, you will have to roll a Perception, Insight, or Investigation check (DM's choice) at disadvantage to see if someone around you plots to hurt you, though you may or may not be able to pinpoint exactly who they are.
This feature cannot reveal an individual's intentions.
