You are one of the lucky few who were born or married into a minor noble house of Tristoania.

Noble Lineage

The human nobles of Tristionia can trace their lineage back to Marcus Tristan and his seven companions. Either your house is directly descended from them or they were likely put in power by them. Since those days though the land has undergone a large shift, creating a schism between the Sterngard nobles and the old noble houses of Tristoania.

Sterngard Nobles

Where as the noble houses in the country must be ever vigilant for threats against themselves and their land by monster and man the Sterngard nobles live much safer and stagnant lives. Within the protective walls of Sterngard they are capable of finding any pleasure, as long as they keep it hidden from the Serrna Clergy. A Sterngard noble is expected to a pious member of the faith and while they do not have the threat of monsters, they must still face the threat of man. Sterngard nobles are constantly vying for more power and position as to not be pulled down in the winds of change.

It is rare for Sterngard nobles to have large land holdings. Instead their families wealth comes from industry and farms. They also need not adjudicate as that is handled by the church.

Old Tristoania

The glue that keeps everything from falling apart, the old Tristoanian nobles families within the country are responsible for supplying some degree of safety to the common folk of the land. They are generally well respected by those they govern fairly. A minor noble house will be in charge of a single village or town and would often be beholden to a more powerful duke or count. Each noble house must also maintain men-at-arms as to protect their land, and train citizens into militia should crisis arise.

Although some of the old houses have sworn to the Serrna faith, many maintain a fine balance between appeasing the Serrna clergy and worship to the old gods. There are even some houses that openly rebel against the Serrna faith, often those far away from Sterngard or with enough power to defend themselves should Sterngard choose conflict.
