Taranesti Survivor Image

Long ago, there were two Elven nations: Taranesti and Shahalesti. Despite their differences, they coexisted peacefully for many years. Taranesti was a society of forest dwellers who cherished nature, while Shahalesti was a civilization of city dwellers who worshipped the sun.

However, tensions arose when the human nation of Morrus began expanding its territory eastward, causing both Elven nations to retreat to the Taranesti Forest (now known as the Ycengled Phuurst). Eventually, a warlord named Coaltongue emerged in the west and threatened to destroy Morrus. General Shaaladel of Shahalesti joined forces with the warlord Coaltongue, who promised to unite the elves and cleanse the land. Unfortunately, this led to a purge against the Taranesti, who were deemed a threat by Shaaladel.

Only a few dozen Taranesti elves remain today, and you are one of them. Although you were just a child during the war, you still identify as Taranesti.

Feature: Party Guide

While within your natural environment, you are adept at traveling and surviving. When you make an Intelligence or Wisdom check related to your favored terrain, your proficiency bonus is doubled if you are using a skill that you’re proficient in.

While traveling for an hour or more in your favored terrain, you gain the following benefits:

  • Difficult terrain doesn’t slow your group’s travel.
  • Your group can’t become lost except by magical means.
  • Even when you are engaged in another activity while traveling (such as foraging, navigating, or tracking), you remain alert to danger.
  • If you are traveling alone, you can move stealthily at a normal pace.
  • When you forage, you find twice as much food as you normally would.
  • While tracking other creatures, you also learn their exact number, their sizes, and how long ago they passed through the area.

Suggested Characteristics

As a High Forest Ranger, your training is never complete. You may choose to hone your skills to become a Legendary Ranger, or you may choose to ignore your mentors teachings and take a different path. How you act is often reflected by your personal experiences.
