Generations long people have gathers magical items and studied them. There is nothing more interesting than writing a paper on a new item or a long lost civilazation.
But the dangers of this also lies in the curses that these items or even buried treasures bring.
Be it items, architecture or even creatures of magic, they are all so fascinating and a life worth pursuing 
You are an academic, a writer or just someone who loves to discover new things or collect baubles.
Having been either touched by a cursed item or obsessed by magic you have passion for finding them.

This can also mean that you hunt rare beast of magic or seldom seen plants on all different planes of existences.
Nothing will stop you to find that last peace of evolution, it is in temples and in ruins that lays the best route to any of the best treasures

 
Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, plus either Nature or  History
Tool Proficiencies: Calligrapher's tool
Languages: 1 of your choice, can be an exotic one.
Equipment:

A one person tent (10 lbs.), calligrapher’s supplies, a personal journal, a set of fine clothes, and a belt pouch containing 20gp

You can choose either : 

1. Magical Beasts
2. Magical item/Cursed items
3. Plants
4. Architecture

You gain advantage to any role to identify one of these, you can only pick 1.
This does not apply that you know how something works or how to use it but just that you know what it is and some of its lore.
Ex. You find an item, you do not know if it is cursed but when a curse is showing you can identify the type of curse.

Variant Academical Explorer: Dungeon delver

You are specialize in finding rare artifacts or historical locations this means sometimes you need to navigate a temple, or dungeon or another dangerous places.

In consent with your DM to what constitute of a dungeon or temple, you have a lot more ease to navigate temples and dangerous places. You gain advantage to avoid traps (Saving throws)  and diffuse traps (Sleight of hand)  and you can always find the shortest way to the entrance as long as you have been there yourself while being concious.
