Your ancestors were fierce warriors and skilled seafarers, living in harsh northern lands where survival was as much about strength as it was about resilience. Your people worshiped gods of war, wisdom, and nature, their sagas written in blood and stone. Raised on tales of the great voyages across frigid waters and to far-off lands, you learned early the ways of battle, honor, and endurance. Whether your journey led you here by choice or fate, the world is your battlefield and you stand ready.

d8 vikingr
1 You were raised in a longhouse filled with warriors and skalds, learning the old sagas by firelight.
2 You lost your home to a rival clan and have sworn vengeance, carrying a token from that fateful day.
3 A vision from the gods set you on your path, and you seek to fulfill a prophecy yet unwritten.
4 You trained as a shipbuilder or navigator, making you invaluable on any voyage.
5 As a child, a wolf entered your home, and rather than attack, it seemed drawn to you. Your kin slew the beast but raised its cub alongside you. The bond between you and the wild has never faded, and the wolf's spirit guides your path in battle.
6 You proved your strength by slaying a great beast of the north, keeping a trophy as proof.
7 During your first battle, you were struck down and left for dead. When you awoke, ravens circled above, and you took it as a sign that Odin himself had marked you for greater deeds.
8 The storm that raged the night you were born was said to be a battle between Thor and a great serpent. Some say his hammer’s lightning touched you, giving you an unbreakable will.

Feature: Pillager’s Instinct
  • You can quickly assess the value of goods and recognize items of importance in a settlement, battlefield, or hoard.
  • Additionally, you have advantage on checks to navigate by sea or predict coastal weather.

Your time spent raiding and trading has given you a keen eye for valuable plunder.

1. APPRAISAL & INSTANT RECOGNITION

You can instinctively assess the value of weapons, armor, jewelry, and furs. This does not apply to magical items, exotic artifacts, or highly specialized goods (like alchemical ingredients or fine art).

For common weapons, armor, furs, and jewelry, the DM tells you their approximate market value without needing a roll.

  • Example: "You recognize that this stack of wolf pelts is worth about 10 gold in a southern market."

2. LOOT PRIORITIZATION (CHOOSE ONE)

This feature isn't just about gold—it's about spotting what’s truly valuable in the chaos of a raid or battlefield. The DM and player can choose which version best fits their game:

  • Version A (With Dice Roll) – You may make a Wisdom (Perception) or Intelligence (Investigation) check (DC 12-18, based on rarity) to notice exceptionally valuable items amidst the chaos.
  • Version B (No Dice Roll) – The DM simply describes what valuable or important items stand out to you without requiring a check.

Example: “While others grab loose coins, you immediately notice the warlord’s sword is of Dwarven make—far more valuable than it looks.”

  • Could also help detect hidden treasures, like important documents, maps, or religious relics that hold power or influence.

3. BARTERING & MARKET KNOWLEDGE

When dealing with weapons, armor, furs, or jewelry you have assessed, you recognize when you’re being overcharged or underpaid, allowing you to gain advantage on Persuasion checks when negotiating prices. The DM provides price information for assessed items. This does not apply to magical or luxury goods.
