Writer Image

You are a chronicler, a storyteller, or an aspiring author, weaving the tales of the world around you through ink and parchment. Whether your works are for posterity, profit, or personal catharsis, you have spent countless hours shaping the events, people, and places of the world into narratives that resonate with others. Your writing could be anything from memoirs, poems, and plays to research, or even prophecies. However, your craft has not been without its challenges—society’s disapproval, harsh critics, or a lack of inspiration. Still, you press on, driven by the need to create something that will outlive you.

Skill Proficiencies:

  • Insight: Through your observation of the world and the people around you, you've learned to read others, detecting their motives, emotions, and desires, often translating these observations into characters or plots in your work.

  • History: Writing often requires deep research, and your exposure to historical events, people, and places has given you the ability to understand the past and use it to inform your writing, making it rich and authentic.

Tool Proficiencies:

  • Calligrapher’s Supplies: As a writer, you need a steady hand and control over your craft, whether you're writing for art or for function. Calligraphy allows you to present your writing in its best form, making it easier to preserve, publish, or share your works.

  • Forgery Kit: You’ve dabbled in faking letters, official documents, or even books. Whether for personal gain, for research purposes, or simply out of curiosity, you have a knack for recreating what you see and hear.

Equipment:

  • A set of calligrapher’s supplies

  • A blank book or journal

  • A quill and ink

  • A letter of introduction from a publisher, mentor, or patron (optional)

  • A small amount of coin or a stipend, depending on your success or patronage

  • A map of the city or region (you may have traveled or written about places far and wide)

Feature: Researcher of The Written Word

You are skilled at finding written sources of information, whether they are ancient scrolls, unpublished journals, or local newspapers. You can often acquire knowledge by searching libraries, archives, or talking to fellow scribes or scholars. Depending on your locale, you may have access to a well-stocked library, university, or other writers who can aid you in your research.

Mechanics:
When you spend at least one hour per day researching or seeking information from a written source, you gain advantage on any Intelligence (History) checks or Wisdom (Insight) checks related to the subject you’re researching. Additionally, you may find a piece of hidden lore, fact, or tidbit to help in your current endeavours, at the DM's discretion.
