The sorcerer background is isolated entirely to Mystic class characters.
Having come to a place of full power, the sorcerer finds themselves at a point of hiatus. They find themselves at a plateau. Seeking more control over their natural power, the sorcerer turns to new means of enhancing their ability.. through their mind.
As a sorcerer, you have come as far as your innate abilities can take you. Through extreme training, intense study and concentrated focus, you have successfully managed to break through your barrier and push your powers further, but at a cost. By choosing the sorcerer background for the Mystic class, you are intentionally limiting your mystic abilities, as the struggle to rely on your natural power continues to nag at you. However, you carry over many of your natural talent to your new found power of the psionic potential. You are able to "reset" in a manner of speaking. Take a sorcerer that you loved, and heighten them to new capabilities, without fully losing their previous powers.
- Skill Proficiencies: Arcana, Perception
- Tool Proficiencies: None
- Languages: Choose any two languages of your choice.
- Equipment: A set of common clothes, a magical focus, and a belt pouch containing 20 gp., and your choice of an explorer's pack or scholar's pack.
As a sorcerer (just like the class), you did not come to your power through study or devotion. You were born with a natural affinity to magic. Did you hail from a powerful dragon ancestor, or are you the phoenix reincarnated? Have your powers come from the shadows themselves, or do you draw from the elements? Where did you draw your abilities from before turning Mystic? Choose or roll.

Your natural strength conflicts with your learned power. You are able to tap into your sorcerer abilities at will, but you are hindered with the amount of abilities you can use through your mystic training.
You gain the sorcerer origin features at their appropriate levels, but your Psi points per level are reduced by 1.
Spell List
You may choose up to 3 sorcerer spells and 3 sorcerer cantrips of your choice, regardless of level, but the rules to them still apply. For example, while you can have a level 9 sorcerer spell, you still won't be able to use it until you're a level 17. However, while you don't have spell slots, you are limited to only 3 sorcerer spells a day. You may choose to use one spell 3 times, or each spell once, or a balance between the two.
As a reminder, you may choose any 3 spells from the sorcerer's entire spell list, but the spell still requires the appropriate level be reached in order for the level spell to be cast. As an example, the first level 9 spell slot for a sorcerer unlocks at level 17, so a level 9 spell, even if you chose it for your mystic, can only be used if you've reached level 17.
Suggested Characteristics
A Mystic who was born a sorcerer will have a natural conflict within them. They have access to great power, but this power pales in comparison to the abilities they have the potential for if they train properly. As such, you are never 100% on the choices you make. This doesn't necessarily mean you need to be a nervous wreck about doing anything, but you ar often left uncertain if your choice was the right one.
