Yo! so i was thinking over artificers and thought hey what if they worked more like a warlock? I dont mean their pack magic stuff i mean more like their "packs of the" and invocations. warlocks have their packs, invocations, and subclasses artificers have infusions and subclasses
what would an artificers new thing look like? idk but artificers have always felt like they are kinda missing something to me
While I agree with you that Warlocks and Artificers have some similarities, and I personally do like a "3 level dips" for other classes, I don't think they need to have a "pack" feature. I believe that the Right Tool for the Job is an underrated and under used feature. Using the rules in XGTE opens alot of possibilitie, proficient, skilled or not. Just the stuff that can be conjured is useful.
However.. let's play with this idea a bit. I would add something to RTFTJ feature. I would allow the player to pick 1 tool set that they are proficient in that fits their Trade (blacksmith, wordsmith, plumber, something unrelated to their subclass), and allow them to pick 1 cantrip, and 1 first level spell, from any class spell list related to their trade (plumber =shape water & create and Destroy water for example) , that can only be cast with that tool set. Kind of like an advanced Artificer Initiate (think journeyman, Red Seal, Blue Seal trade in real life. AI= JM, RTFTJ = BS, Tool Expertise = Blue seal). There would be some interesting combos that would not over power the class.

PacTs. They make pacts, they don't "get packs".
I would say the Warlock should work like the Artificer.
