RAW it sounds like a massive nerf to the old "treat your armor as separate pieces". You now learn one additional plan from the Armor-Category, and you can create an additional Armor when using RMI.
Now...is it indended as a "i summon two sets of armor for my companion to wear too"?
I would understand if this is an error and it was meant as "helmets, boots, gloves" and all that. But two sets of armor of which you can only wear one?
It is pretty clearly intentional, as "helmets, boots, gloves" are not Armor in terms of what magic item category they belong in.
A lot of the item plans are intended to be things you give out to party members rather than necessarily always using yourself, which was also the case with a lot of the infusion options in the old version.
I will definitely be adjudicating Arcane Armor like wagnarokkr. As far as the additional infusion, it is like a specialist Wizard. At level 9, you know 5 plans and can replicate 3 items. These can be any type of magic item. In addition, you know one armor plan and can replicate an additional armor magic item. You can use this to hand out magic armor for your companions or keep it for yourself.
However, note that this does not allow you to create more than one of the same plan. You could create +1 Armor and Armor of Resistance at level 10, but not two sets of +1 Armor.
Something to consider which can be a bit unclear at times is that Shields are also in the Armor category of magic items. Shields don't have their own separate category.
So Improved Armorer can either net you a bonus suit of armor or a bonus shield.
Im a bit confused about this one.

Does the Armor category mean the armor (And Shield) listed or and Armor and Shield of the appropriate rarity?
You are still restricted by the Infusion List. At level 9, your options will be:
