Just curious on folks thoughts. So. Alchemist ARtificer, that uses a Spear. They also use Green Flame Blade-which isn't actually on their list. but GM allowance to use the Tool Focus Spellcasting focuses on other spells. So its becomes valid for the extra damage. (Also really shouldv'e been their list anyway). The legalty of the Tool Focus Spell Focus being used as a generic Spell Focus for other spells is debatable but not the topic here really. Though I think it gives the Alc a boost they need. (And the fact it gets necro bonuses helps with that idea)
Basically they attack with the spear + green flame blade, with Alchemical Savant damage bonus to it. Arguablly after level 5-GFB does a d8 vs the main target, which becomes D8+INT (or i guess could double up vs second target). D8+int is fairly comparable if not more consistent than 2d8 anyway. At lower levels I guess could also throw it with Returning-but its hard to sell doing that instead of a firebolt. Although prior to level 5 I think having utility cantrips would be a good call.
Think the damage would keep up well enough?
Extra considerations. just for fun/utility was the UA Spear feat-that gave a bit of accuracy and a Bonus Action to extend the reach for an attack. Meaning 10ft reach with the Spear on your turn. As well as Spell Sniper (artificer) (gaining Firebolt for the long range choice at 240). This also extneds Green Flame from 5 to 10ft. Which works with the Bonus action. Realistically 10ft of distance doesn't mean much in 5E where you can freely move and hit in concert.
Later levels would probably snag Ogre Gauntlets as well since I doubt i'd get ove 13 or 14 str probably. More so if I end up picking up two feats just for a reall cool visual
So... Anyone ever try something along those lines? Or just have much of an opionon of a Weapon+ Green Flame user?
(had also given consideration to taking 3 in Thief Rogue. Bonus action Oil throw + green flame for more damage)-2d6 sneak helps sure up that weapon damage and makes me a fun flank buddy for the big weaponer. Though if doing that would opt out of the two feats of course-though arguably it would work the best with that combo)

Also just for fun. the Flavor of this would be really cool Alchemical Spear, basically an injection spear! Filled with vials of oil or alchem fire, etc. It would look really cool. With the Firebolt, the fluff would be along the lines of the Stargate Staff weapon visuals, or Digimon's Justimon's spear blast. That sorta deal would be pretty visually cool as well.
Also would be fun to play a shieldless artificer since normally very little to no reason to not rock a shield for great AC
Hi! I know i'm reallyyyy late to this, but I really like this.
I'm currently playing an atterlist artificer who's using booming blade, so i'm pretty close to what your doing. It is so much fun. Also the Gantlets of orge power idea is really good, but for before you get to level 10, just put a +1 infusion on your spear and you should be good to go, cause if you have a 16 in strength you'll deal +4 instead of +3. This also means if you put enhanced weapon and gantlets of orge power at level 10, you can get a plus +6 to attack/damage rolls! tho, i'd might put that on a fighter or something, and just use Radiant weapon for a nice +5.

If you can get your hands on an All-Purpose Tool, you can give yourself the Shillelagh cantrip as an Artificer spell and use your Spell hit bonus to hit. Use a Staff focus that you can infuse with Enhanced Arcane Focus and turn into your Arcane Firearm and you will be doing even more when you combine it with Booming Blade. Plus, if you're using your Force Ballista Eldritch cannon, you can knock them back 5ft and out of melee range so they can take more Booming Blade damage if they want to re-engage.
