Hi, I'm creating a duplicated character to play with a build... and in that duped character, Custom Background is having some problems.
I duped a character, then changed a few things - the Race, the Background, even deleted some levels in the Class and tried Multiclass - and then it gets buggy.
Skills aren't showing up elsewhere in the character.
When I create the Custom Background, the skills are visible in the Background tab in the editor, but not visible anywhere else.
They're not in the 'Display' view at all.
And, in the Editor, when I added the Skill Expert feat, those skills are still available in the menu to add a new skill, and aren't visible in the menu to choose which one to give double proficienty bonus.
Proficiencies aren't showing up elsewhere in the character.
No matter how I try to configure it - 2 skills, with 2 languages ... 1 language 1 tool ... or 2 tools - none of the Tools or Languages show up either.
They aren't in other places in the Editor (as above)
They don't show up in the View interface either (as above)
When I create the exact same character from scratch, without 'Duplicating' an existing character, it's fine.
So, I think when you 'Duplicate', and change some extensive things (i.e. play with classes for multiclassing), something doesn't delete 'cleanly' and it ceases to work.
The only workaround I've found is to just not 'Duplicate' the character.
This has nothing to do with Duplication. I'm making a character right now where I took an old level 10 ranger, deleted the ranger levels, and re-did everything about it (race, class, etc). I used Custom Background to set proficiencies, and when I'm in the Class section, choosing Skill Expert as an ASI doesn't let me select the skill proficiencies I gained from Custom Background.
I can't usefully link you to the sheet, because I just tested finishing the sheet so I could get a link, and sure enough, doing so fixed the problem: once I had a URL in hand to put in this thread, going back to that same ASI to change its settings let me pick the Custom Background proficiencies, presumably because saving the build to the sheet got around the bug.

Old school knowledge / without all the baggage
Please post the url to your duplicated character sheet so someone can take a look.
