Beginning at 1st level, you have significant experience studying, tracking, hunting, and even talking to a certain type of enemy.
Choose a type of favored enemy: aberrations, beasts, celestials, constructs, dragons, elementals, fey, fiends, giants, monstrosities, oozes, plants, or undead. Alternatively, you can select two races of humanoid (such as gnolls and orcs) as favored enemies.
You have advantage on Wisdom (Survival) checks to track your favored enemies, as well as on Intelligence checks to recall information about them.
When you gain this feature, you also learn one language of your choice that is spoken by your favored enemies, if they speak one at all.
You choose one additional favored enemy, as well as an associated language, at 6th and 14th level. As you gain levels, your choices should reflect the types of monsters you have encountered on your adventures.
It's an underdog feature of an underdog class, so makes sense to me why this bug may have been present for a while, or have crept in, without anyone noticing.
The expectation on my end is that I should be able to pick "Humanoids" as my Favored Enemy option multiple times as my ranger levels up. Right now, I can't do that. It makes sense that I can't select "Undead" twice, because one selection of "Undead" covers all undead. But the "Humanoids" feature has a sub-sets. I'd expect that I can't select Goblinoids twice, but I would expect to be able to pick other humanoids.
Could of course be an error in my expectations too, but I'm pretty sure that, RAW, this is a bug in the interface.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a 1st level ranger in character builder.
Use vanilla settings - no customizations
Expectation: Favored Enemy
Set Favored enemy to Humanoids
Select any two.
Suggestions: Goblinoids and Orcs
Level up ranger to level 6.
Expectation: Level 6 Option for Favored Enemy available (expectation met)
Open Level 6 Option for Favored Enemy drop-down:
Expectation: Ability to select Humanoids again for two different humanoids. (unmet)
Expectation: Options chosen in prior steps should not be selectable (met)
Expectation: Options not chosen in prior steps should be selectable (unmet)
Would love to see a full humanoid list in the character builder dropdown list- the existing selections are very limited (tbh, it should display all races tagged as humanoid). Kind of disappointing that my Lizardfolk ranger can't select either Bullywug or Troglodyte as a Favored Enemy (or FE language, for that matter).

This is a known issue.

Thanks. Did a search for it in the forum and couldn't find it. Glad to hear it's already logged. :)
