The 2024 version of True Strike is missing the roll to hit feature. It does have the roll to damage button, but it would be nice to have the ability to roll to hit from the spell as well.
I don't believe that's a bug. Isn't that because you use one of your weapons to make the attack, and the spell cannot know which one you want to use? I think this is working as intended.
This is true that you use the weapon, but the conditions of the spell are that it is a weapon that you are proficient in so it would make sense to have a roll to hit button with 1d20 + proficiency + spellcasting modifier.
As far as I know, there is no way to modify a weapon's attack roll to use your spellcasting modifier unless I create a custom weapon. So as a user I would REALLY appreciate if the spell just gave me the option to do the roll to hit there, let me roll a dice for weapon damage, and then roll for whatever damage True Strike is adding if applicable.
It would be REALLY cool if for each weapon my character had equipped there was an option to roll to hit and damage as a true strike version of that, but we can thug that one out in the short term.
So create a custom weapon. That's what I did to make it easier to roll for the 2014 Sharpshooter feat, and I'll do it again for this at level 5 once it actually adds damage. As for what you're hoping for... I don't think that they ever got a Rage Button to automatically add rage damage for Barbarians, so...
Obviously creating a custom weapon is the short term solution, but that is bad user experience in the long term. I am calling out this opportunity for improvement here so the folks who can make the change are aware of it. Shillelagh operates almost exactly like the 2024 True Strike and it does have a to-hit roll option in the UI. Not sure if you are trying to advocate that a to-hit roll shouldn't be added for True Strike, but that is as parallel a precedent as there ever has been.
Shillelagh specifies two specific weapon types. True Strike works with a weapon with which you are proficient (including ranged weapons). It's easier to parse Shillelagh because it has fewer options.
True Strike needs to have a roll to hit button because it changes the ability score used for both to-hit and damage rolls. You can't use the "to-hit" roll on the Attack action, because that will use STR/DEX, which is wrong if True Strike has been cast.
This is like saying that Starry Wisp shouldn't have an attack roll attached to it, which is obviously absurd. True Strike uses your Spell Attack, it should give a button to use your Spell Attack on the spell line just like any other attack spell.
Where you would be correct of Feature not Bug would be with the initial damage on the Attack Tab but, that is already there with an additional True Strike damage next to it. EXCEPT, that damage calculates your Spell modifier into the damage and the extra damage, so it's doing it incorrectly because the weapon STILL has its normal damage mod calculated into the normal damage roll.
True Strike is coded poorly and needs to be resolved.
Well stated- Still an issue as of 1/15/25. Also, True Strike doesn't have the "add as attack" option.
My work around is customizing the weapon with a "To Hit Override" equal to my spell attack, but a damage bonus ONLY to get to a zero modifier- in other words, leaving just the weapon damage die. Then at least I'm down to three clicks- to hit, weapon damage, True Strike damage.
I don't think that they ever got a Rage Button to automatically add rage damage for Barbarians, so...
For 2024 Barbarians, yes, they did. If you got to the Rage feature and click it then you can activate it and it will apply the bonus damage and such until you deactivate it.

Regarding the topic, I do agree that True Strike should have a To Hit, because it uses your spell attack the same way Shillelagh does.
It is an easy workaround in the meantime of just either making a homebrew copy of the cantrip and adding in the attack there, or just adding the custom attack directly to the sheet.

There's an option to tick a box on Pact Weapon and Hex Weapon when you click the weapon, would be nice to have this option to automatically calculate changes using true strike.

It shouldn't matter what weapon you want to use, to-hit is to-hit. The only issue might be whether or not proficiency is relevant.
It should be done almost the same as Shillagh is just adding the bonus damage once your at level 5 and up
