Subscription and available content

I've recently been thinking of getting D&D Beyond subscription as the monthly price isn't that big. However, one thing from its FAQ has bothered me. More exactly, the thing about available content. If I understood it correctly, the subscription only means I'd be able to get perks like creating unlimited number of characters, early access to new content etc. Does that mean that no matter if I have a subscription or not, I'd have to buy books via marketplace? So let's say I'd want to create an Owlin (you can tell I'm into owls, so that's a must for me) and Owlins are available in Strixhaven which must be bought so that Owlins are an available race in character creation. Does that mean that despite the subscription I'd still have to buy Strixhaven from marketplace?

Ever since management used backend issues & public criticism by cancelcore media as a reason to squeeze more money out of Beyond by getting rid of a la carte, you have to buy the full book.
