In the phb, it says "Rather than proficiency with artisan’s tools, you might be proficient with navigator’s tools or an additional language. And instead of artisan’s tools, you can start with a mule and a cart."
None of these options seem to be baked in and this text is missing from the background description through the character creator. If you didn't read the PHB's version, you wouldn't even know you could get a mule and a cart as starting equipment! Perhaps the cart and mule could be put into the starting equipment like the choices you get for weapons from the class starting equipment. Maybe a separate entry for Guild Merchant from Guild Artisan would be worthwhile too. That way it was obvious that the extra language could be taken. I see Navigator's tool isn't a choice from the default tool proficiencies either.
I am well aware that you could customize the background and add this equipment manually, but I often don't read the books anymore when creating characters, so this is something that could easily be missed.
Anyway, thanks for reading!
