You are right about the d6. The mean value is 3.5.
Generic formula is: n/2 +0.5, where n is the maximum value of the die.
That formula gets the same result, but I feel like mentioning for anyone that doesn't realize it how the value is determined and what the pedantically correct version of the formula is:
The mean is found by adding each possible roll result together and dividing by the number of roll results. (1+2+3+4+5+6, divided by 6, for a d6.)
The shortcut is simply adding the minimum possible roll to the maximum possible roll and dividing by 2 (1+6, divided by 2, for a d6.)

I have noticed that a riding horse has 13(2d10+2) hit points. Is this correct because (2×5)+2 or (2×6)+2 is never 13 .
So i wonder how the total was calculated.
The mean value of a d10 is 5.5. 5.5x2 + 2 = 13

D&D 5e Averages - d4 - 2.5, d6 - 3.5 (off memory, might be 3), d8 - 4.5, d10 - 5.5, d12 6.5
