I wanted to create a magic weapon that changed its base damage and noticed one of the few weapons that changes the base damage without adding extra damage was Gurt's Greataxe. I added the weapon to my character to see how it is displayed and realized that it is incorrect.
The text of the axe indicates that the base damage of the weapon is 3d12 with an additional 2d12 if the creature is humanoid but viewing it on the character sheet it shows as a base greataxe with 1d12
Anyways my initial inquiry was more around how to change the base damage of a weapon as I wasn't able to change that when creating a magical weapon and couldn't see any example in the homebrew (didn't look through everything) or official magical items except Gurt's Greataxe which modifies the base damage of a weapon but looks like it doesn't do it correctly so thought I'd submit it as an error.
Thanks.
