The tool permits the Artificer to know the cantrip. The artificer casts the cantrip normally, using the level of the artificer for cantrips which change with level.
mhm so you can "learn" eldritch blast for 8hrs a day and cast it at whatever level you are at using your Int modifier (since it counts as an artificer cantrip, you would use your spellcasting mod) all 8 hrs if you want to.
Correct. But note that Eldritch Blast by itself, with no Agonizing Blast or Hex, is not that much more powerful than a regular old Fire Bolt. Its damage type is advantageous, and multiple attacks has a better chance of landing some damage, but overall you're not gaining much other than the damage type swap. The All-Purpose Tool is usually better used to learn a specific utility cantrip your team needs to solve a problem in the field than to learn a damage cantrip you likely already have a near-equivalent for.

absolutely! A fun combo with it is say 3 battlesmith artificer (for int based weapon dmg) 6+ in bladesinger wizard and have spirit shroud active. Oh and have crossbow expert feat. It makes things spicy XD

The flexibility of the tool will allow you to choose a cantrip to bypass an immunity or resistance, or maybe exploit a vulnerability. So it does have use in combat but I would agree that very often its best use is to give you access to the huge range of utility cantrips that you would not want frequently enough to ever use a slot on but which are very handy in the right situation.
There's no good way to temporarily add a spell outside your progression (or class) to the digital character sheet. The only real way to do it is to build a custom feat that adds the spell to your character, then take that feat in the Feat Manager window to gain the spell. But you'd either need to create that feat on the spot when you used the tool, or pre-create an "All-Purpose Tool" feat for every possible cantrip in 5e, which is...labor-intensive, shall we say.
Better to simply have a marker of some sort that lets you know you've used the tool and which cantrip you learned, then simply reference that cantrip in the appropriate book. Have a tab open to it, or in the case of most utility cantrips, simply know what it does and use it appropriately.
The DDB sheet is not a substitute for scratch paper (or scratch Notepad docs), especially if your game doesn't always color inside the lines and do things neatly by strict RAW. My advice is to get very familiar with the homebrew feat editor if you want to do stuff on the sheet outside the norm.
I kind of thought so.. but I just dipped at 15th into two levels of Artificer for a classic "Magic-user" 8th soc, 5th wiz, 2nd lock, 2nd art. the cantrips he got for art were guidance and mending.. so Avrae wouldn't give a clue.
And was curious. Or not just curious just got a "Sonic screwdriver." All purpose tool and it seems I'll have to figure how a cantrip works
Just make a homebrew item, it's more accurate and less trouble than creating a custom Feat and forcing your character to accept too many feats. Here's mine for Gust. Hopefully the official All-Purpose Tool will eventually be updated to just allow a cantrip selection. https://www.dndbeyond.com/magic-items/4334844-all-purpose-tool-cantrip-gust
With a Feat, you can add a dropdown list of all cantrips via a Spell, instead of having to make a magic item version for every cantrip. I've done this myself before for the Hat of Wizardry.

So would a 6th level artificer with an all purpose tool know 3 cantrips at a time(2 + 1 because of the all purpose tool), or would they still know only 2 cantrips but 1 of them could be from any spell list(because of the all purpose tool)? Curious because of the wording, "and it counts as an Artificer cantrip for you"
The one from the All-Purpose Tool is an extra cantrip on top of the 2 you already know as an Artificer. It's noted to count as an Artificer cantrip because that means you use your Artificer spellcasting for it (INT ability, requires thieves/artisan's tools as a spellcasting focus.)
What level does the tool cast the once per 8 hrs Cantrip at?
Cantrips don't have levels.

I have a different question tho: How to activate any of those cantrips on the sheet here?

I made feat for all the cantrips in less than 3 minutes, I don't see what was such labour intensive about that. Thanks for the answer tho.

Here I published it as Homebrew if anyone else needs it.
Just checking, level of the artificer, or level of the character.
Itinerant Deputy Shire-reave Tomas Burrfoot - world walker, Raft-captain, speaker to his dead
Toddy Shelfungus- Rider of the Order of Ill Luck, Speaker to Friends of Friends, and Horribly big nosed
Jarl Archi of Jenisis Glade Fee- Noble Knight of the Dragonborn Goldcrest Clan, Sorcerer of the Noble Investigator;y; Knightly order of the Wolfhound
Cantrips do not and never have cared about class level. They only care about overall character level.
