I have this reborn who died through a state of rage, and through that got into a wild magic barbaric lifestyle (easily enraged). I rolled good stats so event int has a plus 2.
The idea for her backstory was that she used to be a mage. So even though a barbarian, often rolls well on arcana and can use the reborn thing to roll and extra d6 after seeing the S20 outcome.
Our party is since recently missing a healer. So I'm thinking, maybe my barbarian used to be a cleric before becoming reborn. (She doesn't remember much, because reborn). I'd like to multiclass into something arcane-like. Any tips? My barbarian is only lvl 3. How should I proceed if I multiclass??
Barbarians don't mix well with casters. You can't cast while raging, nor maintain concentration. So, any healing you'd do would have to be after the fight is over. Having caster levels can give you some out of combat utility, but that would be the only benefit.
I agree that barb + caster really doesn't work all that well.
However, if you're desperate for healer, you could consider Paladin? As far as I can tell, you can Lay on Hands even while raging, as nowhere in the class feature's description does it mention casting a spell or taking a magic action. However, this is only 5 HP healing per paladin level, so it would require serious investment with few other benefits as far as I can tell. You can't smite while raging anymore since it is now a spell. It also probably wouldn't fit your backstory as well.
You could consider taking magic initiate cleric or druid to get a single healing word or cure wounds once per long rest without forcing you to multiclass. You'd also get two utility cantrips like guidance or spare the dying (technically "healing").

You can definitely Lay on Hands while Raging, because Lay on Hands isn't a spell. It's a bonus action, but even if it were a Magic action, you could still do it — there's no restriction on taking Magic actions while Raging. The restriction is only on casting spells.
This means that, for instance, if you did do a Barbarian/Paladin multiclass, you could use most of the Paladin "Channel Divinity" abilities while Raging, because they're not spells either. (I say "most" because the Glory subclass one only applies when casting Divine Smite.)
Barbarian/Warlock is a great combination, and can work with a relatively low Charisma, as you aren't going to be as spell focused as a typical Warlock.
If you want to be a healer, Celestial Warlock is a great mechanical chassis to build a character like this on, and you'll have limited Spell Casting out of combat. I'd suggest Pact of the Tome for ritual spells to add some additional utility.
There are a few great Warlock spells that don't require concentration that pair reeally well with Rage, like Armor of Agathys...

Any tips are super helpful!
