So, working on an 8-Eldritch knight / 4-Hexblade Warlock, with emphasis on the Fighter class there on after
wanted people’s opinions for fighting style blind fighting vs great weapon fighting + Devil Sight especially since I am on the fence about going past level 4 warlock and the 2 Eldritch invocations i need are Agonizing Blast (+charisma damage) and Improved Hex Weapon at level 4
I figure blind sight 10 feet will have all kinds of uses, especially with fog cloud and darkness being spammable… Yes, I could go one extra warlock level and grab Devil Sight, only use darkness and change my fighting style to great weapon…but I’d really like to focus on fighter at that point… I don’t know if the additional level in warlock is worth moving further down fighter
The thing I always think when people talk about characters like this is, what about the rest of the party? You lay down fog clouds and darkness everywhere, but then how are your teammates going to see the enemies? It’s a tactic that sounds good if you think in terms of solo, but really shafts everyone else.
And to answer the question, if you’re up in melee a lot, don’t overlook defense style. It will help soften the impact of not having a shield.
Agreed about defence. I'd say 90 percent of my fighter multiclasses have always been defense unless they were archer builds.. thought I'd try mixing it up with blindsight
And yes, I have had issues with darkness and fog cloud hindering casters and ranged players in the past, but I believe this is mostly a melee team, so it should work... but I'm sure it get in the way on some moments

It probably shouldn't be the go to strat for every fight, but the way I see such automatic rejections makes it sound like its unspoken house rule that no one should ever take these spells.
In reality, it does nothing against allies who fight in melee, while spell casters have versatile options of things to do, from spells that do not require sight to conjuring more allies or exiting the affected area to prepare a trap for enemies who follow after them.
I tried blind fighting and fog clouds, it didn't play nice with my party. I decided to respec my fighting style at level 4 to defense instead and call it a day. The DM also suddenly had enemies with blind sight, so it was definitely not worth it, and it was highly situational when it came into play.
If you want to spam darkness infinatley, then be wizard 18 (for darkness spell mastery) and warlock 2 for devils sight.

When you thought you knew about spellcasting - you played a warlock
Why are most bard colleges a pain to type? I mean bard college of valor, compare to champion or evoker. Same goes for sacred oaths: paladin oath of devotion. That's even worse.
I don't think WoCE were very creative with the rogue and ranger subclass titles. I mean ranger archeotype? Roguish archeotype? Bro! Fighters are better but still is somewhat unsatisfying compare to a monastatic tradition or sacred oath.
