I’ve been playing this campaign with a fighter who subclasses into a arcane archer, but we found out this world was set between a mix of fantasy and wild west. Having rifles available to us and revolvers I asked the dm and he cleared it to be okay but my companions are against it
If the DM is okay with it, I say go for it. Modern problems require modern solutions ranged weaponry. Its already largely thematic that Arcane Archers only use bows in the same way that Druids do not wear metal armor or Battlerager barbarians are elusively dwarves. Yes, there is a RAW restriction to some of these, but it shouldn't stop you from having fun with your character. Thats the sort of things DMs are expected to adjudicate.
For your other companions, are their worries from a balance standpoint or just a flavor one? I dont know how your DM is balancing firearms or whether they require any special proficiency

By RAW, it shouldn’t work, because the power says “Once per turn when you fire an arrow from a shortbow or longbow.”
But, as kaboom says, if a DM rules you can, then you can. I can’t really think of why it would be terribly game-breaking to allow use of a rifle with AA powers. And it would stand to reason that if the technology exists, people would find ways to exploit it and adapt the old tech to the new tools.
