Playing in an old west inspired Eberron game. My character is a ranged battle master. What do you think is best for a dual wield pistol build: archery fighting style for the +2 to hit, or two weapon fighting the the added damage to the off hand shot? My dex is 18/19 so I am already a pretty good shot and vex weapon mastery will bring in advantage on a lot of shots.
Archery and Sharpshooter. +2 to hit and no disadvantage at extreme range. But a pistol in each hand would only work If you had 2 attacks and just one shot frem each (Then issues with reloading unless you can get Gunner feat. Why add guns and no feats to support them?
Unless in this old west setting guns have advanced to the point one of the pistols in the setting is light it can't be done in 2024, and likely without the reloading property such as having revolvers(an old west staple).
An option to make it work is by reflavoring things. If your DM lets, make a hand crossbow that is a gun, it in always works like a hand cross bow but just looks like a gun. Or some kind of spell or effect manifest like a gun, such as 3 levels in rogue for soul knife and stylize the psychic blades as pistols.
Edit to add assuming you can reflavor the hand crossbows or revolvers or something exist in your game archery style imo grows better with you. +2 to hit is on all your attacks not just a boost of damage to one attack. The damage difference isn't huge either way, but as you get more attacks and damage to each attack the +2 pulls ahead.

Not to burst your bubble, but the Pistol doesn’t qualify for the Two-Weapon Fighting Style, because it isn’t Light. It’s sad, but true. So definitely pick up Archery and the Gunner Feat at your earliest convenience.

Honestly! It bothers me so much that they took the time and effort to officially put guns on the PHB Equipment table, but didn’t even bother to put the Gunner Feat in the book..

I always favor the to hit. You don’t do any damage on a miss.
If it’s in the 2024 edition, the weapon needs to have the “light” property to dual wield
No Two pistol Hero in D&D.
