I was thinking of tweaking one aspect of the Champion to give it some more... pizzazz.
Instead of Remarkable Athlete at level 7, I was thinking of creating The Champion's Call to Arms.
The Champion's Call to Arms: As a bonus action, invigorate your allies with a heroic call (sound a horn, shout a phrase, etc). For one minute, the Champion and all allies within a radius of 15ft (20? 30?) gain a +1 bonus to attack rolls (not damage) and temporary hit points equal to your fighter level + your constitution modifier. This feature may be used once(?) per long rest.
*The general feedback I've had, both in this forum and from my fellow players, is that the Champion is a paragon of physical fitness and my original tweak basically fell too much into leadership territory and didn't reflect the Champion's raw might. Therefore, I would keep Remarkable Athlete as is and add an additional feature, which is to basically combine it with an !oh-so-slightly modified Charger feat. The end result would like this:
Level 7 - Remarkable Athlete
Starting at 7th level, you can add half your proficiency bonus (round up) to any Strength, Dexterity, or Constitution check you make that doesn’t already use your proficiency bonus. In addition, when you make a running long jump, the distance you can cover increases by a number of feet equal to your Strength modifier.
When you use your action to Dash, you can use a bonus action to make one melee weapon attack or to shove a creature.
If you move at least 10 feet in a straight line immediately before taking this bonus action, you either gain a +5 bonus to the attack's damage roll (if you chose to make a melee attack and hit) or push the target up to 10 feet away from you !and knock it prone (if you chose to shove and you succeed).
I've always liked the idea behind a "champion" but the sub-class always seemed to be missing something that matched the epic feel that the idea of "champion" conjures.
Yes, I like it. How long does the effect last? If it's just one round, I might even buff it by changing the +1 to Charisma modifier, and add it to damage.
Alternatively, you could play more with the Champions crit theme...maybe allies (and the Champion if she targets herself) crit on a roll of, I don't know, 2, for the next round?
Oh yeah, duration. I was thinking since it's once per long rest, it could last for one minute. That's also why I don't think it should be too offensively powerful.

Thoughts on this tweak?
Thanks :)
The only problem I see with it is “Champion” is a “1on1” fighter.
so to give him that seems out of character for the archetype. I do agree remarkable athlete is underwhelming at level 7. Particularly because most DMs don’t properly use athletics checks and half-buttedly let acrobatics substitute in where it’s not really appropriate.
but, overall I like the concept of the skill you suggested. I just don’t see it as a champion skill as much.
Agreed! If DMs used Athletics correctly (and designed fights with interesting terrain) Champion would be SUPER cool!
You ever notice terrain in battles always makes you feel like you’re in a game of Minecraft?
its flat for 30-600 feet in all directions or there are ledges one perfect block height format?
You never really have too many open field battles with fallen tree trunks to hop over, or tree branches and brambles in the way, etc etc etc.
everything is always so open field. As if the fights aren’t easy enough in 5e.
5e battles are ridiculously easy. And it’s not just the mechanics. A lot of it is just lazy DM work on the design. Even the modules are mostly lazily designed.
”you see a rolling field of farms... when... goblins attack” now all of a sudden everything is flat. There’s no farm crops. Nothing. Really?

Maybe as you level up the radius/attack bonus gets bigger? I'd certainly use it, looks good.
